Certainly possible.

This condition was known before the internet.

I think it's possible, but in a different way. I could see something like that happening when you experience it too much/often. Getting a specific emotion too often inures you to it, so it feels less significant unless you feel more than before. I guess it'd be more like emotional burnout rather than atrophy

Emotional desensitization, I agree with this too... i.e., someone who's experienced loss often, they become numb to it

You can't have a panicky EMTs rescuing your ass. They have to be professional and have stoic attitude.

The same goes with ninjas.

I can say with conviction that the lengthy suppression of emotions can lead to great difficulty in attempting to rejuvenate them. As for atrophying through a lack of usage, I believe it might be possible--just not for me.

This kinda reminds me of Kiritsugu Emiya from Fate/Zero.

My emotions atrophied a long time ago. It usually doesn't matter except that I rarely use emoticons, which scares people. They just hold no value for me. I smile day to day, but I learned to fake a smile. Anger, my eyes become cold and calculating. Sadness is expressed purely by an increase in sleeping. I don't cry.

I was there. Still kinda. The sadness and negative emotions definitely. Happiness tastes like ash sometimes... i don't mind it though...

Actually, from what I've learned from a former death row inmate, if you haven't experienced something for a while, it'll just surprise the crap outta you and come back strong when you're reintroduced to society and w/e it entails. It seems like your regular emotional state just depends on where and who you live around.

I think you are born with predisposition and some you get desensitized. i was 7 year old when US NATO led coalition bombed Serbia for 72 days. Bombs fell less than 100m from where i lived. seen also few Albanians get executed by Serbian police. Now as an 22 year old i only care and am emotionally tied to my immediate family. now nothing phases me.

Yes, absolutely. My ability to feel positive emotions has diminished heavily over time. Whether it's my chronic depression, my injuries, my medications, or a combo of them, I cannot say I am happy, nor do I know what happiness or joy feel like, as I cannot remember a time when I was truly happy. The only emotions I can feel at all these days are mostly negative ones. (And no, it's not my mindset.)

I've been this way for over a decade, and I don't see it changing anytime soon. I've learned to cope, but I feel robotic and inhuman compared to others.

I'm going to watch some anime. I'd rather not dwell on my issues.

Yeah, had someone who wasn't directly related to me check on me the other day. First time in 5 years. My body actually started to shake.
