Sailor Moon Crystal: SEASON 2 HAS BEEN CONFIRMED

I was expecting this to be the second half of season 1. Isn't season 1 suppose to be about 26 episodes? We're not even half way done with it and it already looks like the first arc is ending. I haven't seen the manga but in the old series, it was soon after Sailor Venus joined the team that they went after Queen Beryl. I know the old series changed a lot, but did they really change so much that half the original content was left out of this arc?

Sailor Moon Crystal is adapting the story from the MANGA. The fist two Arcs of the manga (Dark Kingdom and Black Moon) are exactly 26 chapters together. Chapter 14 is split between Arc 1 (Dark Kingdom) and Arc 2 (Black Moon). The manga is much more fast paced and to the point - there are no monsters of the week or anything of that sort.

The original Sailor Moon anime very LOOSELY adapted the story from the manga. This new anime is much more faithful in terms of storyline, art style, characterization and plot.

I included a link in my original post where you can read more on the differences between the original anime and the new adaptation.

No, Bruh, no.

Actually yes. Chibiusa is a sweetheart in the manga. Completely different from her ruined personality in the original anime. Seriously, I wrote that in my first post. Why not read before commentating and giving people the wrong idea? Seriously >_>

You are misinterpreting the phrase/joke. Also don't worry I have Zero clue who she was before or now, so no previous character trait to fall back on.

I see. 26 episodes still seems like a bit much if it's only for the first arc, though. Is there any chance the second season is actually episodes 14 or 15 - 26? If it's after the initial 26 episodes, that would mean it would come out next summer at the earliest. Seems a little too early for promo visuals if that were the case.

Edit: Just saw the news. The Black Moon arc really is the second half of the 26 episodes ordered and it starts this January.

I've been watching the original every Monday on Hulu and the pacing is more enjoyable then the faithful adaption imo. The new series moves super fast , but the differences is outstanding like it is with Rosario Vampire anime/manga. Is the new series skipping anything?

Comparing Chibiusa to the infinite amount of loli's and Tsundere we have in today's anime makes her look very lovable, so please lol.

I've heard that Chibusa's personality is different in the manga than it was in the original anime. So we won't see any bricking between her and usagi, as there hasn't been any between rei and usagi. I might enjoy this version of Chibusa.

So what are your thoughts on the second season of SM?

The topic subject may mislead some people into believing this is a confirmation of additional episodes beyond the original commitment of 26 (as opposed to simply entering a new story arc).

Like I said in my comment on the CR News article, I had hoped never to see the Pink Menace again. Yes, I am aware that her personality is different in the manga, but that does not mean I have to like her.

I am more concerned about the villains of this arc. The first anime made them far more than what they were in the manga, where they just served to be cardboard for Usagi to murder.

....

Then again, that is the case for almost all of the manga villains.

And the one set of villains that are supposed to show up later in the manga get completely dropped in the first anime. XD

I always liked Black/Wicked Lady. The Black Moon arc is probably the one where I actually liked a good bit of the changes from the manga that the first anime had. More Wicked Lady and the Black Moon siblings were treated a bit differently. That and I liked some of the Doom Tree arc. Would've been cool if they'd figured out a way to keep that arc in some form and make it work.

Personally, I love (and always will love) the original SM anime though it is loosely adapted from the manga.

I am also loving the new SM anime, because I love the manga a lot.

They have their differences, and their own strengths and weaknesses. Personally, I do prefer the pace in the manga, because the first anime was painfully slow in some places. However, the new anime is also putting more emphasis on relationships than the manga did which rushed it sometimes, so I find it a nice balance while keeping things moving along faster.

In terms of the new anime's relationship to its original source, the manga - there are few differences and that too in (mostly) small things. It is however, close to the manga - about 90%. It isn't really skipping anything so far. However one major difference in the new anime vs. the manga is the case of the 4 Generals.

Their portrayals are different in the new anime vs. the manga. Not sure where the producers are going with that one.

R without filler should be great. We should get the much better manga ending as well to the arc.. Here's hoping we get the rest remade too, because this new series really annihilates the old one.
