Before I knew about CR i used to torrent One Piece, then I caught up to the simulcast and I haven't downloaded an anime since DBZ: Battle of the Gods. But even then, when it came out during that two day premiere thing I went to go see it

I always advocate for piracy when there is no reasonable legal route to access content in the format you want but to have good options out there and forgo them... that's just a selfish stain on society. (and THEY are why we can't have nice things lol)

Sometimes piracy is needed even when a legal option is present... especially with software.
If I would pirate something I would always be sure to pay ASAP as soon as a legal option is available. Also as soon as I have more available budget I want to throw in even more by purchasing licensed merchandise.

Ok, kids gather around the bonfire it's time for me to tell you a short story.

T he story begins with me talking to a friend on Skype regarding a anime that I've watched called Chaika on Crunchyroll. So then I tell him that he can watch this wonderful anime on CR... Then I get the reply it's not free in witch I answered you can watch a episode one week later for free... And then I get the answer "pirate of nothing" and answers like that pisses me the hell off since things like this will one day be the demise of the industry.

Anyhow, what do you think about people like that?

I can't put into words how much people like this bother me. The ONLY time I don't watch anime on CR with or without premium is when it's an anime that isn't on CR for example "The Legend of Korra" (SOOOOO MUCH HYPE.). It bothers me that people can't just wait a few days to watch it for free on CR when you watch on CR you help support one of the coolest and most culture rich industries there is. I'd rather stay away from random pirated stream sites because I don't feel like supporting random idiots that try to make a quick buck, and ruin my favourite industry. The thing with CR is that you can rely on the quality, you aren't bombarded with "Hot Russian/Asian Mail-order Wife" and "Play this new garbage MMO IT SUCKS! BUT GIVE US MONEY!" ads, the release dates are reliable as CR is in direct contact with the producers and when it is coming out late CR knows first and can relay it to you in the fastest possible manner. I use premium on CR because I enjoy the perks, supporting the industry however little, ...And I hate waiting for the anime to be released for free users not to mention 1080p is pretty sick.

He sounds smart to me why the fuck would you wait a week on the CR release if you can pirate a version with better subs and in 1080P a week earlier.

... A fansub can take up to two weeks to sub something where as CR already have a stable release schedule. If you don't support the industry then you have no rights to enjoy the content provided in the industry of anime. Nor do you have any rights to say that a anime is shit since you've not invested a thing into it. The same could be said about games, movies and music

Hitsugi no chaika gets fansubbed on the day of its release

well this Justin Bieber album sure is shitty but i cant say it since i didnt pay for it .

I think im supporting the industry more by pirating every anime and buying some figurines once in a while instead of giving Crunchyroll money every month while the anime studies only recieve one or two cents of that money.

I think nothing. The ones that piss me off are the ones that absolutely refuse to watch something if it isn't available legally. If you really want to watch something that badly, then stop complaining and go watch it.
As for on-going series, if CR gets it on time, I'll watch it here, if the fansubbers have it first, I'll watch it there.
Don't give a damn about how I watch them, as long as I get to watch them on time. In special cases when my love for the anime is too strong, I'll try to watch it before fansubbers or CR even have them up.

Although I don't know what gives it more money, I also have a gut feeling that buying goods from official sites gives them more money...then again, how much does buying from the CR store give them? I'm curious now.

As for the late fansubs things, there are indeed times when fansubs are delayed, but the same goes to CR. CR schedules have betrayed me many times, so can't really call it stable.

I don't really care on how people watch their anime. I usually watch it legally, but if it's not on Crunchyroll, I torrent.

You clearly don't understand how licensing work... Crunchyroll have a net income of their ads and subscribers that they use for both bandwidth, licenses and profit. The amount of money given to a anime publisher depends on their contact between CR and them, there's no set amount. Then we also have the fact that CR have to pay to keep a series on their service and as such this means that legal streaming services are a active income for anime publishers.

You accully support the industry forward MORE by using CR compared to buying merch since they're a legit service that supports the companies and people behind anime/manga. Where as there's so much unlicensed anime and manga merch out in the wild. So in other words, if you want legit merch then research every little purchase you make.

It's always fun to disscuss stuff with someone who doesn't know jackshit of what they're talking about...

Merch only gives anime license owners and publishers money if they're officially licensed. Almost any company could make merch and sell it outside Japan without the anime publishers getting a single daim out of it.

Also, regarding your question of how much they earn... Well, that depends on a massive amount of things. First it depends on how much CR payed for the inisual item and we can only speculate on what that amount was. However, we can figure out how much they didn't earn. First of all when CR buys something for their store then they will have to ship it. Meaning that shipping, handling and potential import taxes will be cut off. Then we also have the fact that CR wants to earn a revenue on something they've sold, in most cases the profit margin is REALLY REALLY small since they want to stay competitive to their competitors.

This is how I consume anime. If I can't get it on CR then I'll look in a store, if they don't have it then I'll turn to other streaming services and torrent... But the problem here was that it was available for free on CR, but he just choose to not watch it here because it was a legal service.

I don't particularly mind it. Lots of the time I pirate things in order to know whether it's worth spending the money. I pirated Hayate No Gotoku, absolutely loved it, bought all the dvds and manga. I don't pirate anymore, but I can understand it if people do it like I did. :3

There is legal and illegal ways to watch. A legal/legit streaming site like this one is when the website pays for every anime they've got on the website, thus meaning that the anime publishers and lisensors earns a profit on these sites. Where as a illegal streaming site steals content from both TV and legal streaming sites like this one and then doesn't give a single coin to the companies behind the product and in most cases then puts ads on their services so that they can earn a revenue on someone elses work.

This video explains it a bit better then me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ju_YK-vvFL8&list=UUzKeqmoj1dcTYVjTVkVPGlw. If you have more questions then please ask away!
