Hey, I was wondering what are some good action rpgs I can play on the PC these days. I played both of the dark souls games, skyrim, and new vegas and I liked those. Any recommendations?

If you liked Skyrim I suggest it's superior predecessor Morrowind. If not some good picks would be Borderlands (2, prefferably) Baldur's Gate, Diablo II and III, Fable and Sacred. I would recommend the Witcher, but it's an aquired taste, so inform yourself on it before purchasing.

If you like 'hard' RPGs with rigid stats and the ability to screw your character if you don't think about levelling, you should try System Shock 2.

Also, Deus Ex and Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Don't bother with The other two... one is a bad sequel and the other is a bad mobile game ported to PC. Just those two.

Seconding Morrowind. The best Elder Scrolls game by far. With all the graphical upgrade mods you can get for it now, it often looks better than skyrim.

I second the Witcher franchise, especially Witcher 2, it's a great story-driven ARPG and is worth at least 2 playthroughs (at the end of first chapter or something, you're faced with two choices that greatly affects the gameplay and story following them).

I would recommend Dragon Age Origins, not really 2, hopefully Inquisition. The combat I guess is an acquired taste, involving strategically controlling your 4 characters, pausing the action to plan future moves, still qualifies as a ARPG. It's been called the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate like @octorockandroll mentioned if older games like Baldur's Gate (which came out in '98) don't appeal to you.

----------------------------------------------------

Judging from games you've mentioned in your opening post, I see open-world RPGs are your thing. Witcher games aren't open world (large open areas with some side quests and content but all story driven). Same goes for Dragon Age, so if you're looking for a ARPG with an endgame experience, I have other recommendations.

If you want something to keep you busy I recommend Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. It's quite an expansive game with tons of side quests and great combat. However the story is pretty bland and the quests aren't what I'd call the highest of quality (traditional fetch quests and kill quests). Basically an MMORPG but single-player/player-focused with good combat. Again, you'll either love or dislike it.

Not really a ARPG but a pretty damn good content-filled story-driven RPG, Valkyria Chronicles, which is coming to the PC (tomorrow) and early reviews indicate it's a pretty good PC port, 1080p, 60fps, graphics options, jap and eng with english subtitles. It originally came out on the PS3 back in 2008 and got all sorts of ciritically acclaim. I think the story itself is meh, but with all the great depth, combat, soundtrack, and amazing anime water-color art style, it's a must-own for me. Already pre-loaded.

Now I'm just going on about random RPGs. Final recommendation, Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale. It's a great little gem on the Steam Store that has it's own following. But it's probably the best indie JRPG on Steam, I mean just look at the Steam user reviews for it. It's about a girl who goes through all this crazy stuff to run her item shop. It's the best JRPG on Steam IMO. I think most would agree.

You should also try the Batman: Arkham games from the last few years. Excellent combat, good RPG features, entertaining story.

I would definitely suggest buying the Elder Scrolls Anthology. Just keep the Skyrim game as a gift on Steam and trade it with someone for another game.

I would suggest looking into some bioware games, like mass effect and knights of the old republic.

Most action rpgs are mmorpgs, but I agree you should play KOTOR.

For online RPG games, I'd definitely recommend you The Elder Scrolls Online. There's lots of complaints about the game 'not being worth the money', or people being like 'Not gonna play this game as long as it's F2P' / 'It won't be long till this game goes F2P' - these are all from QQbabies. It's actually nice, PvP is great and PvE is definitely expanding (Dungeon, questing and raid-wise)

Lore-wise, this game is catching up to the Elder Scrolls series, but you'll find this game primarily building towards a multiplayer game. That being said, you are not doomed if you're the Lone Wolf kind of player, you can definitely beat 95% of the game content without interacting with other players at all, no matter which class or race you're playing.
