Quinne glimpsed at Cleonie's expression as she recalled the short version of the story. When she was done speaking, Quinne took another sip of her drink and nodded to herself.

"And the extremely, ludicrously long story?" she asked, her curiosity was peeked. "Worries not. I've got all the time here. Especially when this place is a dimension where time and space seems to have gotten lost as well."

Cleonie finished her drink. "The extremely ludicrously long story? We'll see if you're up to it."

She gave a big smile to everyone around her. She then yelled out, "Gather round everyone to hear a tale of adventure, romance, and loss. It begins 50 years ago. Yes, I'm 72 years old. I'm a dwarf, we age differently. Get over it.

"50 years ago, I met a tall, handsome human man named Garin. He was an adventuring bard from the western part of Faerun on the planet Toril. I was from Shadowdale, daughter of dwarven adventurers who had raised me to know better. I was a bar maid for my parents at their tavern in Shadowdale. He was a smooth talker, he was handsome, and he spoke of adventure and wealth beyond our wildest dreams. I was there listening along with an elven maiden named Alea and another dark skinned human male named Fzoulish. After hearing his tale of adventure, I wanted in. I wanted in immediately.

"I ran back to my parents and told them the news. I was off to be an adventurer. As a young, 22 year old woman, I was going out in the world. Axe in hand and ready to defeat the bad guys. They forbid it. They yelled at me for about an hour. I didn't care. Under darkness of night I snuck out. That handsome human had me smitten and I knew that I wanted to adventure. My parents did, after all, it was in my blood. So, we set out.

"Our first adventure was hard. We traveled north of Shadowdale toward Hillsdale. There we encountered a small community who's goats had been being attacked under darkness of night by something. We didn't know what, but we knew it was creepy as the goats were found dead with two holes in their necks. All their blood was drained."

Cleonie pulled out a bottle from a compartment beneath the bar. The writing on it was difficult to make out and appeared to be some kind of runes. She poured herself a new glass then put the bottle back into the compartment. She took a swig of the entire drink in one fell swoop. She continued, "We worked with a local farmer to leave out his goats overnight instead of in his barn. We told him we'd reimburse him for whatever was destroyed. We had no idea what to expect as we waited. We waited. And waited. Until in the middle of the night, sneaking toward the goat pen was a...goblin. A really puny looking goblin. I hopped up from behind our hiding spot and yelled out, 'Puny goblin, you will be smited' and rushed toward him. The rest of the party stood in wait for a moment. But not Garin. He was brave and came out with me rushing toward the goblin alongside me. The fight began as I expected, I would charge and pin him to the ground with my strength advantage. Problem was - when he was on the ground, he was stronger than me. A lot stronger. He let me tackle him then hurled me 20 feet into the air with his feet. I landed on my bum, visibly shaken. I stood up to see Garin with his shortsword in hand swinging at the goblin who kept dodging his blows. He was singing, 'Bold, brave, and beautiful. Cleonie was her name. She came to save the village. Evil ran whence she came.' It was encouraging in a magical kind of way. I arose and came back into the thick of the battle.

The goblin saw me coming and took a step back. He suddenly turned into a wolf and lunged toward me. 'He's a vampiric goblin!' Garin yelled, 'Aim for his neck.' I did. I don't know how, but I somehow sliced the wolf goblin's head clean off. It's body fell to the ground and the head and body both returned to goblin form. Garin stood over the body and searched it. He found some gold and a beautiful necklace." Cleonie began to rub the necklace around her neck

"Garin came over to me and gave me the necklace. 'It's magical, that's clear, and not cursed.' He put it around my neck and I very clearly blushed from head to toe. 'You are the hero today, Cleonie. Thank you for saving us and the community.' He smiled at me and we went back to town to tell the whole group what had happened.

"They were shocked, but happy to have it over with. Fzoulish came to us and said he had tracked the goblin's lair. We followed Fzoulish to the cave where the goblin had been based. Inside we found three coffins and realized something. He wasn't alone. There were two more.

"We ran back to the town to warn them. When we got there, we found the two goblins in the middle of town. They were bold now. They were screaming about their fallen comrade. Each of them had a young human woman in hand ready to bite their necks claiming they'll force them to be their brides. Garin drew his shortsword. I drew my axe. Fzoulish drew a dagger and seemed to disappear after saying, 'Let's do this' and bolted toward them. Alea pulled out a bow. She was visibly shaking. I put my hand on hers and said, 'Steady bows save the day. You can do this.' She calmed down and Garin and I bolted toward the two goblins. Long part of this story short, we saved the day, became heroic legends in that small town."

Cleonie sighed for a moment. "I know, you want the long story of how this place got here, but it's hard to tell the tale of my fortune and my founding this place without first telling you at least a little about my adventuring days." She looked around the room. "I can stop if you'd like." She seemed to like reminiscing.

By the time Cleonie paused, Quinne's eyes were wide opened - surprise seems to be the right word to describe the look now. She blinked a little; noticed how she'd rest her cheek on her left hand. She let her silly gaze slip off as she gulped down the drink in her hand.

Cleonie's story was a bewilderment! For herself lived in the modern, rather futuristic world in one other dimension; she still find it unbelievable to hear a real life story of fantasy and myth - for such story was only told in fables. She had to remind herself that the bar was a place where time and space ceases to exist - and of course the world would differ from one another. It was hard for her to imagine that goblins, vampiric creatures and what not really do exist elsewhere.

Looking up at Cleonie, Quinne cleared her throat.

"No please go on," she said. "It may take me a while to sink them in.....but your story is really interesting."

Cleonie smiled. "Gladly."

"Our little band of adventurers became famous in the Daelands. We defeated bands of marauding orcs, murderous kobolds, and there was one time we faced off against a red dragon. It had flown into Shadowdale about 5 kilometers north of where my parents live in a cave. It had eaten local cattle, kidnapped a few people, and had a huge horde of treasure. The locals reached out to us, specifically a former apprentice of the powerful Elminster, a half-elf man named Calvin Drogren. He was a very mighty wizard who wanted to test us. We didn't know it yet, but he would fling us on a huge new adventure after this encounter.

"We approached the dragon's lair carefully. We had faced a number of different beasts before, but this was the scariest. There could have been stealth involved. I know Fzoulish wanted us to be stealthy, as did Alea. Garin and I both knew there was no sneaking up on a red dragon. My father had faced one before and it was a head first into the battle type of situation. So we did.

"Alea was shooting flaming arrows from a distance. Fzoulish had dabbled in quite a bit more magic and had obtained a staff which shot out magical missiles. He was bombarding the dragon while flashing back and forth between the two sides of the cave. Garin was singing out my praise again while we approached. I loved when he did that. I knew at that point that his Bardic abilities made it so when he did so, it made me magically stronger. I also knew that all the compliments he gave me, he meant. All the talk of my beauty he mentioned, he meant. We had been flirty up until that point, but had never crossed any lines. I thought to myself, if we get out of this battle alive, I am kissing that man powerfully.

"I had a powerful new axe I had gotten enchanted. It was specifically stronger against magical creatures like dragons. While my allies were at a distance, I was the tank, I was the one swinging at the dragon in close combat. I dodged fireballs shot at my head. I dodged the creatures claws. The dragon was 100 feet long. It was enormous. I bolted toward the tail, continuing to dodge. I ran up the beast's tail while my allies bombarded from a distance."

Cleonie took another drink, "It was a crazy adventure. I was whipped into what appeared to be a frenzy emboldened by Garin's song, emboldened by my barbarian skills. My rage strength led me up the monster's back to it's neck and my powerful slice took the head clean off. The beast fell to the ground with me on its back, bathing in its blood. My allies went around and found the captured locals and freed them. I stood there quivering for a while as my rage subsided. It was difficult, but I had learned to calm myself after to minimize the amount of strain it placed on my body. Garin had finished helping out the locals when he came over to me. My hand was on the pendant he had given me during our first quest. I hopped down from the dragon carcass and walked over to him. He smiled at me, 'We did it. No, you did it.' I just kept on marching toward him. I grabbed him by the shirt and pulled his head down to me. And then I kissed him." Cleonie's face just shown.

"It was a magical moment in the light coming into the cave. I was still quivering from the rage and now quivering from the joy of the kiss. He was shocked when the kiss ended. 'Yes, we did it,' I said. He stood there for a moment. He then smiled, picked me up in his strong arms and kissed me while holding me. The joy I felt after finally kissing this man was amazing. Love. That was the feeling. Despite smelling like dragon innards, it was the most beautiful I ever felt in my life.

"After looting the dragon's lair with a few bags of holding, we returned the money stolen to the locals. The animals had been eaten already and so had a few of the people. We returned to Calvin Drogren and told him of our progress. He was impressed with our progress and that's when he offered us a proposition." Cleonie gave a smirk.

"Calvin was a planewalker. He had been traveling the planes for years and was apparently was looking for a group to help him catalog some information in a few different dimensions. He explained to us the risks, but also the rewards. He told us he would provide us with a way back to him if we ever needed it, a magical transporter which could be used instantaneously. Fzoulish was in before he even finished explaining what he wanted. Alea was out in almost as quick of a timeframe. Garin & I looked at each other. I nodded at him. He put his hand in mine, and we looked at Calvin and said, 'We're in.'

"That was when my planewalking adventures began." Cleonie pulled out another drink, "The stories get weirder from here. Like I said...it's a long story." Cleonie noticed how Quinne was reacting to her story, "Clearly you're from a different type of dimension, I'm assuming a more futuristic one as opposed to the one I was born in. It's okay to be confused. I know I was when I first began to plane shift. The first time I stepped foot in a dimension with futuristic technology, I freaked out, but in the end - you get used to being surprised."

By the time Cleonie stopped and looked at her with a beautiful smile, Quinne was too absorbed in the story. She tried imagining the world Cleonie once lived in - and then imagine herself living there. Oddly amusing, each time she tried to imagine it deep into its core - the one fantasy game she often catches her colleague keep coming into her mind. It was an online RPG game based in medieval's time, or so her colleague mentioned.

When her gaze matched with Cleonie's, she blinked. She hadn't realise that Cleonie was stopping for real. She blinked and looked sideways at the other occupants of the unusually quiet bar.

Clearing her throat, she gulped down the last of her drink.

"Yeah true that," she replied shortly. "I can kinda imagine your world....thanks to technologies in my dimension. Haha. But I still.....don't quite get it....what makes you run this bar then?

Cleonie smiles again, "I told you, it's a long story to get from Shadowdale to here between the planes. But, before we get to the end, me being here, I didn't tell you what happened after we left Calvin's presence." Her smile grew bigger.

"Fzoulish went to his home to retrieve all of his magical equipment immediately. He had built a house in Shadowdale between adventures and invested in a magical safe to protect his belongings. He gave us each a small cubby inside of his safe, which was kind of him. Although, I still haven't seen a brace I found in that one adventure when we were traversing the plains in the northern Daelands. But...I'm getting distracted.

"Garin and I went elsewhere. We walked out hand in hand. He looked me in the eye and said, 'Cleonie, I know this is sudden, but I don't want to spend another day without you.' I just put my hand up to his lips and shook my head saying, 'Then don't' and I kissed him. We walked over to a small temple nearby to the goddess Sune. She's the goddess of love. They performed a marriage rite for us and bound us together in the spirit together, intertwining us as one in the spirit. I don't remember the specifics, but it was beautiful. We made love that night for the first of many times. While laying together in bed, I looked at Garin and said, 'Promise me this, when we're done with this adventuring, we'll settle down somewhere distant, somewhere exotic, and just do something mundane like run a tavern.' He smiled and just said, 'Anything for you.' I'll leave what happened next up to the imagination." Cleonie's eyes glistened as she remembered.

"A few days later we returned to Calvin to begin our journey through the planes. Those adventures are, outlandish at times. We spent time in a slug dimension where everyone spoke telepathically and everyone, except for us, was a slimey tube creature looking like a slug or worm. They were being attacked by large cricket type creatures who were slaughtering them with no end in sight. We fended off the crickets and saved the slugs. Weird little war we fought in.

"I spent time in a dimension on a planet called Earth. We were hired by a planespeaker named George. He couldn't travel the planes, but could reach Calvin and called him to contact us. George needed us to do a covert mission. He needed people who could be untraceable in his world, so he needed us. He needed us to take out a military facility in a small nation in what he referred to as a Middle East. Not sure what that meant. But, we found our way into a desert land and found a large facility with various types of very high tech equipment. They were building bombs, a lot of them. In the cover of night we entered the facility and took all of the material out of that dimension. We brought it to a space dimension where there was no life and just kind of left it there on an abandoned rock. We never looked back. We never really understood how it worked and, frankly, I don't really want to know.

"The part of the tale which becomes more tragic involves our last mission together before I founded this tavern." Cleonie began to sigh. She was enjoying reminiscing, but she knew the ending. She knew how the tale ended and while she was happy now, there was a part of her which will always wonder...

Cleonie sighed. "My last planewalking adventure. It was a challenging one. Calvin called us all in and said we were needed to save hundreds of people. He wasn't kidding.

"Garin and I had just actually bought this place. We had heard about this dimension, a relatively quiet one in between a number of different planes, and he came to me saying, 'I bought the tavern you always wanted to run.' When he showed me this place, I was just so excited. It was a place to finally settle. We'd live upstairs in the building. Serve customers whenever we wanted. Shut down to spend quiet time whenever we wanted. We didn't need the money anymore, we were loaded from our cross-dimensional adventures. We still did it mostly to help people these days. I was looking forward to settling down and hoping to actually try to have kids. Garin and I wanted kids, but were scared to have them while we were still dimension hopping. He knew enough magic to keep us young enough if we wanted them after we retired. I knew my body could handle it, I'm a dwarf after all - we hit our physical primes later than humans do.

"We talked with Calvin and told him this was our last mission. Fzoulish was annoyed. He wanted to keep going forever. He was greedy and really enjoying the money he was bringing in, but respected our decision. Calvin was disappointed as he enjoyed working with us. But when he heard why we were done, he gave us hugs and said, 'I get it. I wish I had a family myself. Let's get out there, save some families, and let you guys get started raising yours.'

"Calvin came with us on this mission, which was rare. He did plane walk, but he was usually tied down to the affairs of Shadowdale local politics or national issues. He was one of the more powerful wizards in all of Faerun and was sought often. He also was one of the goddess of magic's most powerful human allies. Regardless, he was coming.

"We entered a small dimension which literally only contained a floating city-state. A dictator had arisen who was a techno-mage. He had created some powerful magic to force the population to do his will. Problem? It was about to cause the dimension to implode. We created a rift in the dimension and began to quickly get as many people out as possible. It would be weird at first for them, but they could live in Faerun until Calvin could find a more suitable dimension for them. This was a humanitarian mission, not one for profit.

"We kept pulling people through the dimensional portal, whole families when suddenly the dictator approached. He was a powerful technomage. He stood about 6 and a half feet tall, skinny, with a long black beard. His arms were robotic these days and he began by attacking us. He shot magical missiles in our direction. Garin had a magical item which absorbed them. He smirked when they hit his item and he shot them all back at the technomage. 'Impressive, cross-worlder,' he said, 'But it won't save you in the end.'

"The technomage waved his hands in the air and a dark ball of energy began to form above his head. Most of the people had already escaped. Calvin was grabbing one of the last families from the dimension with Fzoulish while Garin and I were protecting the magical gateway. I was getting ready to charge him when Garin said, 'No, this needs finesse and we need to protect the gateway. You stand here, I have an idea.' He kissed me, harder and deeper than I ever remember him kissing me. 'I love you and always have,' he said as he ran away from the mage shooting magic missiles at him as he did.

"It was exactly the distraction we needed. Fzoulish and Calvin had the last family. We raised them up and out of the dimension through the portal. Calvin went through and began to help the families on the other side. Fzoulish hopped through and said to me, 'You need to get him out of here. The dimension is about to collapse on itself.' I knew that. Garin knew that. The technomage had begun to figure it out himself. The sky literally began to fall and the ground was starting to collapse beneath us. There was an earthquake and lightning flashing everywhere.

"Calvin yelled to me, 'Come through the portal. I can't keep it open any longer or the dimensional rift will destroy us all and impact Faerun.' I shook my head, 'I'll stay here with Garin, you guys go.' Garin began to run my way, the technomage was trying to force the dimensional rift open. He was making it bigger. Now we saw his goal. If he was going to destroy his dimension, he wanted to take another with him. Inside our dimension, earthquakes began as the force of the implosion began to harm ours.

"Garin finally got to me and said, 'Go through, I'll be right behind you. I love you.' Those were some of the last words I heard him say." Cleonie began to get teary eyed.

"Garin went right at the technomage. He tackled him to the ground, causing the spell to get thrown off. And with that, the dimensional rift closed. Our dimension was saved. 500 people we pulled through were saved. But Garin was gone. My Garin."

Cleonie held back the tears as she said, "That's when I came here. We were going to run it together, but even without my love at my side, this place needed to be run. We promised each other we would. So, I did." She took another drink, "So, young miss, that's how I got here." She smiled, "What do you think?"

Tears brimmed her eyes by the time Cleonie looked up at her. She wiped her tears that rolled down her cheeks and shook her head.

"Oh my...I'm so sorry to bring these up," she said under her teary sobs. "I...I'm so sorry.."

Her hands reached out to a box of tissues located at the edge of the bar counter. Her gaze moved down as she quietly dried her tears, hiding her embarrassing look from the rest of the people in the bar. Even if no one from this tavern knows her personally, it was still awkward to cry in front of others.

She didn't expect Garin to have pass away just like that. Leaving Cleonie all alone here. If heaven and stars permits, Quinne would wish that Garin still exist somewhere in the universe, in between time and space - waiting for the day they reunite. When she'd had a moment for herself, she looked up again with a slight smile.

"No worries, I'm fine now...." she said, trying not to make Cleonie any sadder. "That was a beautiful story..."

Cleonie just patted Quinne on the shoulder. "Oh, Sugar. I didn't mean to upset you. It is a beautiful story, I just wish the ending were happier."

She pulled Quinne over aside, "I searched for him. For a years. But, I knew it was in vain. I knew I had to stop and move on. And I have. And I'm happy here running this wonderful tavern, meeting wonderful people, and sharing my life with others." Cleonie smiled a genuine smile. Her inherent happy nature is infectious.

Within seconds the atmosphere of the bar was soon lifted into a carefree one, just like before. Quinne smiled a little, she admired Cleonie's strong personality - something everyone worth learning from. She placed her chin on her hands and inhaled the air in the tavern - inhaling what was the dream between Garin and Cleonie.

"You know what...." she said, opening her eyes. "I might have just like this place more than before."

Cleonie smiled. "Glad to hear it, another drink?"

Hiro was fully engrossed in the book on cleaning. He couldn't stop reading it. Page after page of beautiful elegance in cleaning. It was magnificent, he felt. He began to lose track of time as he became lost in the book.

Quinne nodded.

"Sure, give me another short of Long Island," she replied with a smile. As Cleonie turned over to get her another drink, Quinne glanced over at the other occupants of the bar. The others were immersed in their own activity.

This bar seemed to be the only place for them to do whatever they liked, however they want without much bother.

Cleonie saw Taylor walk into the bar and rolled her eyes. She called over one of the servers, "Bring that boy a hot chocolate and kick the cook to get started on actually cooking more food so we have soup for the sick boy." She liked the kid and really wanted to ensure he was safe. Wished he wouldn't be traveling quite as much as he did alone.

Cleonie turned back to Quinne, "So, I told you a lot about myself. You told me a little about yourself. I feel like there must be more to you than the little you've told me." She pointed right at her, "You're a story into yourself that I'm sure is fascinating." She smirked at the girl, egging her on.

taylor blushes as he heard Cleonie concerns for him. He sits down and take out his pen and starts scribbling down in his notepad. He is thinking to jot down the rare adventure he had in the cold winter world.
