You are quite right. The arcs after the second were not very good considering the arcs before. That is one of the reasons why I wouldn't call it the best anime out there.

Flowers of Evil.

Deep story. Deep characters. Lots of symbolism (especially the background). Music absolutely fits the scenes. Great opening song and ending song. Very eerie music throughout the anime. Flawless background and animation. The dialogues are engaging.

____________

It's a very risque and experimental anime. You either can relate to it or you can't. The main guy is not going to start saying, "I'm going to protect you blah blah" and all that cheesy speech you see in most anime, he's awkward and he couldn't decide what he wants to do... (which is realistic characterisation for a high schooler).

You also don't see random "=3=", "-_-" anime faces in this series, and no fanservice. Which is what i like about this series, because this is a serious story. Adding those things would diminish the seriousness. Some series try to be serious and comedic at the same time, and they fail because of the fanservices and stupid jokes that are not funny.

Free! Eternal Summer

There's a lot of fanservice in this one. But what I like about this anime is that the characters seem to have their own personalities, like they're not all similar to one another.

It's a beautiful story about friendship... and following your dreams. And this is one of those anime where seriousness and comedy work... because the jokes are actually funny and the serious scenes are actually emotionally evocative.

This scene... highlights the beautiful background of a Japanese park, and the top notch animation quality of this anime. It also has very good voice acting. Which are all important components into whether I'm able to enjoy the anime or not.

The characters actually blink, and wear different clothes. Which might not be an important detail for most people... but for me... this gets bonus points.

The best anime ever made was Steins;Gate:

An absolute flawless masterpiece in writing, directing, voice acting, and animation. The depth of characterization, dialogue, and plot are unrivaled in all of anime history. There is no anime out now, before, or ever that even comes close to the absolute fucking brilliance of Steins;Gate.

There.

Yeah... sorry but Stein's;Gate was far from flawless. Was it very good? Yes. Flawless, absolutely not. It had glaring plot holes, the middle section dragged and it contained some questionable characters (like the protagonist).

Oddly enough, Interstellar suffered from a lot of the same issues.... Still very good, but too complicated to ever be perfectly executed.

Um.. Dragon Ball, duh? The entire series written by Akira Toriyama, so not including GT. An old school anime but with such amazing animation for its time. It was such a long-run anime, even though most of it was pure filler to build up action and things we didn't really care about, but it was kind of nice to see some extras. As children, watching Goku fight Frieza brought us off our chairs and seeing Vegeta die brought us to tears. We learned that Goku and Vegeta became the best of pals in the end and that wouldn't have happened if Goku didn't stop Krillin from killing him. Mercy can bring good things, even when they seek no intention to change. at first. Goku was almost like Jesus. Not to mention that it inspired many young men to start training and going to the gym and getting fit. AND the fact that DBZ had so much inspiration in recent animes. The anime isn't all that good to fit in today's anime standards, so you had to be really young to ever like it.
