As of today, Valkyria Chronicles has officially launched on Steam. A solid port with 1080p, 60fps, japanese and english audio with english subtitles, no frame dips.

So if you don't know the game was released in 2008 on the PS3. It's got great strategy, good gameplay, amazing watercolor anime art style, a great soundtrack, and indepth squad creation and management.

The protagonist is a young male named Welkin from Gallia who gets caught up in a huge war inspired by WWII. After that, he joins the army and becomes a Lieutenant who fights and commands his own squad against the Empire.

Game's got insta-death, and I would think implements the system very effectively. All the soldiers you can recruit have their own voice actors, their own quirks, and their own back-stories. Of course, if they die you won't be getting any of that. The incentive is to make you want to keep them alive because they all have something that makes them unique besides just differences in combat traits.

There's lots of side missions to play around with, but the real fun starts in new game plus. In new game plus you retain all your class levels, but now have the option to replay any story mission (as long as you've completed them once in new game plus) alongside the side content in order to get S ranks on everything, level everything, buy everything, and discover all the hidden characters and ace rank enemies.

Availible now for $20 USD on Steam or your regional equivalent. Worth. Really worth. Definitely one of the best JRPGs you can get on Steam.

Game has a 86/100 average critic score and a 87/100 average user score on Metacritic if that means anything to you.

Never heard of the game before. It looks alright, I guess, but I'll probably wait til it goes on sale on Steam.

Also, as a side benefit, the game's initial steam sales basically blew the minds of those at Sega because they were so good. Maybe, just maybe, Sega will see these numbers and actually start releasing stuff outside of Japan again.

This is one of those games that didnt have a lot of copies in the West but was sold out everywhere. It is a rare gem to even own. Lucky for me i own it on my PS3 but i will probably get it on Steam as well. Was released before trophies were even out.
