It's Veteran's Day to celebrate all who served in the military, for people who doesn't live in America there was your explanation.

November 11 is Remembrance Day in Canada, so yeah, it's a pretty big deal here (though for some reason it is only a provincial holiday and not a federal one).

I'm not sure how it is now, but when I was in high school there would be a reading of the poem "In Flanders Fields" at around noon on Remembrance Day and there would be a moment of silence to commemorate those who served.

My dad was a WW2 vet so it's a pretty important day for him. Except for Liberty ports the crew of his destroyer never set foot on land for two years.

In Britain, 888,246 red ceramic poppies were "planted" at the Tower of London -- one for each British and Commonwealth death during the First World War.

Seems Remembrance day is pretty big there too.

Just because it isn't an all-encompassing global thing doesn't mean that it shouldn't be here. Besides, there are a ton of threads on these forums that I would call absolute garbage that have no place anywhere but they still exist.
