I just put whatever I feel like in my avatar. It really has nothing to do with either one of your question.

I favor male avatars, because I like looking at attractive males. In that light, my heterosexuality clearly influences my choices, but not always. Coincidentally, my current avatar is a genderbent version of another character that I like to make via Rinmaru's games.

Nothing wrong with having tsunderes.
Especially when they're your waifu. In the sense of your favorite girl.

Me and my friends have talked about this idea before, and we think there should be a psychological study on it.
For CR I use Alan Walker from D.Gray-man as it's how my CR friends see me. I also think I relate well to Alan. Though I normally use female avatars and even play as female in RPGs(like Skyrim and Tera). I really don't know why though..............if I had to give a reason I guess it would be that I just want to. It's not to fool people, it's not because I see myself as a girl, and it's not for some sick fantasy and etc. I just do it because I want to.

I use cute avatars, lately all of them being of my favorite ship.
I don't find males to be cute and fluffy, so I don't use them as avatars.
I also would use cute creatures as avatars, and since I'm most certainly not into animals, guess it doesn't have anything to do with my sexuality.

It's just a picture I like I gravitate from male to female avatars usually just of characters I like , like Himuro from Kuroko No Basket, Ayato from RahXephon or Tae from Gantz.

I normally have a female anime character as my DP in steam(I think right now my steam dp is the same as my CR dp), I use to feel weird about it but I've grown out of it. It's like playing a female in an RPG (Sort of).

My current avatar is an undead lich lord from Magic...

... that said, I do use female avatars sometimes. If they're pretty, why not? It lets people know what character(s) and show you like.

There's nothing fancy behind my avatar-selection thought process. I just use images I like. It just so happens that my favourite images are images of my favourite characters.
