Playing survival horror games like the Resident evil series, the Silent Hill series and The Last of Us alone at night is creepy, and fun!

I've been playing for 10 years and, apart from MMO experiences like WoW, SWTOR, Neverwinter and so forth along with certain co-op games like BL2 and Halo, all my experiences have been single player.

I personally savour the experience of playing through a game much more when I'm able to immerse myself completely in the story. Playing with other people can either be a fleeting moment, a bit more on the serious side (like raids etc) or utterly for comical and social interaction of which I don't find myself gravitating towards personally. I've had several great encounters of playing with others but only with people who are close to me like my brother and my boyfriend.

So it's been a couple of years and I've started to notice this particular quirk of mine, that being the fact I can't sit down to play video games alone without feeling horribly lonely. This loneliness is especially bad with hand held game systems, the thing is I don't need to be talking to anyone to play or have them take note of the fact I'm playing. Any person can be doing there own thing in the background and just knowing there in the room with me makes it feel normal to play video games. So I was wondering if anyone else had any similar problem .

Not I. I have no problem playing video games alone. Mind you, I'm rarely alone as I'm married & have 4 kids, but still. I generally am playing my handhelds alone or when traveling and mostly focus on the game. Which, currently, is Pokemon.

see pokemon is designed for kids but adults play them call of duty designed for adults but kids play them

I'm the exact opposite, can't play unless I'm alone.

Best way to play games in my opinion, you don't have to worry about some asshole acting like the leader of the fireteam, you are the leader of yourself.

It's nice if someone is watching/playing, you get an enjoyment out of having the same experience or like me & my bro on spartan ops halo 4, got to do cool things you couldn't do solo. We got warthog stuck in the gravlift/man cannon, so i pressed the button to start the portal, my bro was honking horn to show it was still stuck. I threw a grenade, sending the warthog and brother still driving, into the portal while it kept spinning.

Crazy thing of all is that the warthog came with us into the next level. Wished i saved the vid.

Ultimately though, i tend to play solo and alone most of the time. It's just the way things have always been. I do miss the multiplayer parties, the meet up of friends who liked the game as much as me. Sadly those days have gone with online gaming.

JRPGs are my favorite genre and you can pretty much only play those alone so.....

Fighting games are my second favorite though, and while I can play those alone (netplay), it doesn't compare to local multiplayer

I have my days where the loneliness of playing on your own hits, especially since I grew up playing games with my brother and nothing but co-op games with friends. The drawbacks of growing older is that life takes over ;-;

Some games are actually better to play completely alone. Like the original Resident Evil or Dead Space. Even games like the Last of Us are fun to play alone since you really get to immerse yourself in the experience.

I play most of my games alone! Pretty much everything campaign based, anyway. With a few exceptions - like Left 4 Dead and L4D2, the campaigns on expert or realism are definitely better co-op. Halo can be fun co op too. Although for multiplayer games, I tend to party up with people with mics.

I'm probably just a loner but I dislike playing with other people physically around me.
