Oh no! Will we be able to watch it in the US? I was really looking forward to the anime. I would still like to watch the movie though.

In some ways a film works better for the series- now they won't have to worry about censoring the more serious issues presented in the story. The manga also had trouble getting published thanks to some people's discomfort with displaying bullying of the disabled with such focus. With a movie, they won't have to worry about these issues (at least not as much.)

If Kyo Ani is handling it then I think I'm likely to enjoy how its handled, though won't lie kinda wish it was a series instead of a movie but take what you can get I guess.

Feeling very uneasy about this decision. I hope they go the Nichijou route by retaining the manga's look and feel. But considering how Nichijou did...sigh. And the director did K-ON and Tamako...eeh...well, maybe they're looking for a chance to handle something different.

The director did Tamako Love Story as well and worked on Clannad. Considering the emotion this film needs to portray, it's in very good hands.

You probably don't know much about Naoko Yamada but she is top-of-the-line.

I think the potential art shift has me more on edge than anything else. KyoAni's visuals are wonderful and pretty and clean, and I do like that. But Koe no Katachi is not pretty or clean at all. I'm just worried that an attempt to make it look 'nice' will take away from the atmosphere of the original story. Like that time with Munto...aaagh...

I haven't seen TLS, but while Clannad was certainly full of emotional drama, I feel that it differs significantly from the drama presented in Koe no Katachi. It's harsher or...well, I'm not sure how to describe it. But if Yamada can capture that sort of drama too, then great. These are all subjective feelings, in any case. I'm just uneasy, like I said, but I'll naturally wait until the movie before passing judgment.

I mean, I'm sure it will be a very good movie regardless. But there have been cases where adaptions don't even feel like the same story, which would make me sad in this case. (The Rurouni Kenshin OVAs come to mind, which while masterful, are something entirely different from the source material.)

For me, regardless of who the studio is, I have doubts about the series being adapted into one single movie. That's my biggest concern.

As for the art shift, I think this will be KyoAni's big test. They usually adapt LNs as of late, but we've seen some different art styles recently with things like Free! or Amagi Brilliant Park. Those are a lot more sleek than A Silent Voice, but nonetheless I think it can be done. There are numerous manga whose art could really never be truly captured in an anime, see Dorohedoro. But, with something like A Silent Voice, I think KyoAni can come close, thought it will be a tad different.

Here are a few panels I think KyoAni will animate for the film:

There are many more as well, but those are the main ones I think KyoAni will do for fan service, moe appeal, and the feels moments!
