To keep the poll somewhat reasonable, let's say that a national vote came up to decide if a man could have up to three wives.

Let's also assume this is a US vote just to keep things a bit more simple.

It's their choice, why impose? Just don't drag any 13 year olds into it.

Also, why not a women with multiple husbands?

Polygyny, no--if it was limited to that. Polygamy sure. Kind of wondering what prompted you to ask about men having multiple wives and not women having multiple husbands or pretty much just people having multiple spouses of any gender.

BTW, moved this to the Polls forum, since it's a Poll Topic.

I just started reading a manga called Hare Kon which revolves around polygyny, and kind of wondered what people would think of the idea in general. I agree that it would have to be a vote on polygamy if it was a real issue.

Sorry about putting it in the wrong spot. It's my first poll.

Good post. If men can have more than one wife then women should have the choice to have more than one husband. These days I only know of two places that still practice pollandry. One somewhere in Africa and the other part of rural Tibet.

Believe it or not it can work in real life.
Theoretically, if people can stomach threesomes, they can stomach polygamy.

The thing is that legally recognizing multiple marriages involving the same individuals would greatly complicate things like survivors' benefits, tax bracketing/benefits, inheritance regulations, and so on. I'm not principally against the idea, but we're talking about some pretty big revisions to an enormous amount of laws and procedures to iron out all the details and make sure that the institution isn't abused or abusive.

Isn't one hard enough? But yeah, so long as you're not a pedo chester or kidnapping women and holding them captive or some Saw sh*t, it's at the very least okay..

If everyone is consenting then there shouldn't be anything wrong with having multiple partners not that many would likely consent in a country that isn't male dominated. Tying the idea of marriage to religion is the main reason it's not allowed i think people should be free to do as they like as long as it harms nobody.

That said America can't even agree on something like gay marriage never mind polygamy i think trying to figure out how to make it work in law would be an endless debate.

I'm against it for MANY reasons (having known people in polygamous relationships, it's always toxic, jealousy DOE creep in, and quite frankly, I have yet to meet a person who does it that isn't seriously mentally disturbed... like high narcissistic tendencies, borderline psycopathic, needy as hell, etc..). I firmly believe that you can only love one person "the most" at one time. The dynamics are just not something I want to be involved in, and it's not cool.

I agree with the quoted part though, that it will never happen in the US because the laws, tax regulations, etc. would be a nightmare. (hell, I'm all for getting rid of tax breaks for being married. You already get a break by cutting most of your living expenses by living with someone. Why a break for pairing off?)

No because when they would divorce it would make already screwed system even more slow and more expensive. Also i can just see a nightmare of already complicated Tax Code getting even more complicated.
