Akatsuki no Yona (Yona of the Dawn)

Premise/Synopsis

Yona is the sole princess of the kingdom, living the luxurious and carefree life as a princess should. She has it all: the finest clothes and cosmetics, the most divine sweets, a loving emperor as a father, and the hottest cousin crush, Soo-won, anyone could ever hope to have. Now, if only her bodyguard, Son Hak, wasn't so annoying to her and her hair wasn't so red.

But her nearly perfect world quickly shatters as the man she loves, Soo-won, murders her father and the path to his ascension to the throne is assured. Son Hak escapes with Yona, and they lead a life on the run from that point on.

Pretty good series so far (about 100 chapters out in Japan so far)! I've been a fan of Kusanagi's works since Mugen Spiral and the things she comes up with is entertaining both in the romantic, friendship, and comedic sense. This one is really no different besides the adventure and fantasy plotline. The story is a little slow the first few chapters, but after Yona gets Kija, the first dragon, things begin to roll and the story takes off from there!

I especially love the humor in the manga and of course the obligatory Hak/Yona scenes. <3

I've said this a few times already, but I REALLY wish this was published in North America so I can actually collect the manga. >_<

Nope, it's a Japanese manga; the mangaka is from Kyushu. lol I'd like to own the DVD/BR too if it ever happens...and it comes as a box collection.

LOL Too true on the manga. Hak has his work cut out for him. XD But the ship tease is one of the points I like about AnY so...I can't really complain. Haha.

Kumamoto, Kyushu -- represent!

She's from the city I'm currently living in. She doesn't live here now, though. Unfortunately.

I picked this manga up because the similcast intrigued me, but story was not progressing fast enough in weekly episodes. I like it so far. I also love the Hak/Yona scenes :)

I have a few manga that I REALY wish were published in North America/English...

If you like this series, I'd recommend Yu Watase's series Fushigi Yugi, if you haven't read it yet.

oh, same... like all the decent shoujo for example... . Ah well Ore Monogatari!! did get published, super stoked about that, even own first volume now.

i was gonna say i loved Fushigi Yuugi. But i actually haven't read it -- it's Hatenkou Yuugi that i liked so much. lol. but i do hear really great things about fushigi, mayhaps put on (already long) wish list ^^

I actually dropped the manga after Yona and Hak were rescued from their fall. Something annoyed me. I don't remember what it was though, cuz I really enjoy the anime and have even spoiled myself on raws

Thanks for the recommendation, but I've already read Fushigi Yugi.

Yeah, the anime's pacing is fairly slow (I was actually hoping they'd at least get to Kija this week), but eh. I already know what's going to happen, so it doesn't bother me as much. lol

EDIT: Sogno -- I hope you can pick up the manga again when you feel like it. lol

I want to read this manga, but I don't know if I should start from where episode 14 left off, or should I start from the beginning?

I started from the beginning, but since the anime stays very true to the manga you could start at chapter 25 or 26. I think chapter 25 is the content of the second half of ep. 14, and then 26 is heading into as-yet-unadapted story.

There are some great scenes with Hak and Yona that that anime is not going to be able to cover in this cour, I really hope that they decide to so a couple more seasons so they can adapt the whole story.
