I may just read it from the beginning. I love the story. Plus I may miss some Yona moments.

This Manga is alright. If you're the type of person who is into historical fantasy romances, then this is for you. I kind of feel like it has a bit of a reverse harem to it, but that could be just the romance, so there is that. I recommend reading; good character development and feels.

Seriously!! Me too.

If it doesn't, I'd pretty much consider learning Japanese to own it. I love historical based mangas, and up until now, Yona is exactly the type of main character I love, full of determination and will, everchanging. I love the plot, the legends involved, the themes, and the characters are diverse and refreshing. I read most my manga online, but the ones I REALLY love, I buy, and I'd buy Akatsuki no Yona in a heartbeat, regardless of cost!

I love how balanced the story is, it doesn't rely just on romance, comedy, or adventure but it has a good dose of all of them. I really hope the manga and anime do well in Japan so that they get more cours because 2 won't be enough to cover the whole story.

I also have been reading the online translation but would buy these up in a heartbeat if they published them in English.

I haven't been pulled into a story this hard since, probably, FMA:B. Which is why I sought out the manga after watching only a few episodes. I just couldn't wait for more!

I love the way Kusanagi writes. Every time a new element is added to the story it feels richer and more interesting. I love that the story seldom takes the predictable path. I love the characters, each one is unique and delightfully nuanced. I love the setting with its quasi-historical and fantasy elements. And, most of all, I love Hak. (Because, seriously, is he not the most awesome and perfect male lead ever?)

I can't wait to see where the story leads.

I also can't wait to see that scene!!

I agree with you in terms of balance. The progression is great too. Yona's character growth is happening at a reasonable and believable pace. You can still see her struggling with her weaknesses, which I think is an important element to consider, because I find a lot of female protagonists tend to become too strong, too fast, without any fallbacks - which is unrealistic to me. I can't wait for the next few episodes to air, the Green Dragon should be coming along soon!

Yeah, I do read most of it online and the ones that really like I have to buy. Might just buy it in Japanese while/if it gets published here. usually when I watch anime, I wait until it's over then read the manga, but with this one I could not wait to find out what happened next. after the episode when Shin-Ah joins their group, I went and read it from the beginning.

I usually do the same, watch the anime first and then read the manga... I've had Akatsuki no Yona bookmarked on Mangafox for quite a while and never got around to it (not realizing at first it was the show I had just started watching) and I did the same thing that you did with Yona. After episode like 5, I though: "To hell with this, I need more Yona ASAP!!" And read all the chapters that were out at that point :P

So the second cour of the anime is probably going to end either at the close of the pirate arc or a few chapters later when the Golden Dragon arrives, I am really hoping that they get greenlit for more seasons because I want to see the entire story animated.

I'm leaving on a trip to Japan Wednesday, and I'm seriously contemplating ditching my martial arts group for a while to seek out some Akatsuki no Yona manga and merchandise. I know that my purchase won't be enough to sway any production companies, but it will at least feel like I've done something to support the continuation of the anime. And the desire to find out what happens next might be enough to kickstart my Japanese studies again...

Do you think my boyfriend would be jealous if I put up a bunch of Hak posters around my office?

I was wondering about that anime opening as well and whether or not they plan that to be the ending of the second cour. I could see it being possible if they upped the pacing of a lot of the coming material and maybe skipped over a few things. I'm not sure how I would feel if they did that. On one hand, I want to see everything from the manga get animated, on the other hand, ending the anime with that kind of exciting promise of future material might make it more likely for there to be another season.

And I totally agree about Yona and Hak's relationship. I think it is progressing perfectly. I loved the part at the village in Kai where all the village women were all over Hak and Yona remembered that he's always been attractive to women and then suddenly realized "Oh my god, Hak is super hot". I think she really hadn't ever looked at him as more than a dear friend, companion and right hand man. I think that is completely natural and understandable. After all, she'd spent her whole life in love with another guy. It's good to see her perceptions changing, but I'm glad it wasn't rushed. If she had rebounded right to Hak after her trauma, that would not have been the basis of a good relationship. As it is, she's going to fall in love with him as a stronger, wiser Yona and their relationship will be stronger for it.

And it's ok if your boyfriend gets jealous. My husband is also jealous of my love for Hak. Just remind him not to worry because Hak isn't actually real.

I've been chuckling about this all morning, I totally agree!

I really enjoy the tension created by having Hak and Soo-Won as the contrasting love interests, the way things are progressing I could see either 'winning' Yona's hand in the end and that makes it far more engaging than if it was just a cut and dried match between Yona and her destined partner. Worrying that Soo-Won might marry Yona in the end makes me want Hak to win her heart even more, whereas in most series there isn't very much tension at all in the romance because it's too obvious who the final match will be. Wouldn't it be awesome if the resolution with that hairpin was that Yona stabbed Soo-Won with it? Heh heh heh...

Hahah Hak love forever. Seriously though, I'm actually relieved to be able to enjoy a nice and slow romantic progression as the Yona's character continues to grow. I think a part of what I really enjoy is that Hak feels a lot more than just "romantic" feelings towards her - like how he grins when she does something tough
there's also how he not only respects her for the princess that she is, but also as the woman that she's becoming. And he's clearly really proud of her too.

Man I can't wait for another chapter release.

Can't wait either to see that scene (the sword dance) animated. It's the most anticipated scene, isn't it?

I want a Hak and Jae-Ha poster. ;)
