I think they'll need at least four cours to get to that point of the story, silverwolf. I mean, with the current pacing of the anime, we'll only just meet the fourth dragon as the second cour ends

Just caught up with the manga. My suspicions of the Fire tribe are being validated. Next Chapter should be good. I want a good argument between Yona and Hak.

Can't count out Soo-Won's cunning. Didn't he try rallying the other tribes a few chapters back. I think he might have figured something like this could happen. But, The Princess will help secure the situation. I really like Hak's character.

I do think that Soo-Won will make a good military leader, he probably takes after his father more than most people give him credit for... however, I think that even if he does win this engagement Yona will end up having to save him at some point. It seems to me that it's becoming more and more likely that we'll see Yona helping Soo-Won instead of beheading him - as much as I want to see Hak hack his head off

The story flow feels like Soo-Won is going to win, rather easily. The story hinted that the soldiers of Kai are tired. The blinding confidence of the Fire Tribe general seems like a factor too. I am picturing Yona and her gang arrives a little late and encounters Soo-Won, once again.

I wonder if part of the reason Soo-Won usurped the throne was because he got wind of this plot. He certainly seems to be ready for it and it makes even more sense of his wooing the Earth tribe leader who is a famous warrior.

I think that Soo-Won's plan to usurp the throne predates the Fire Tribe's plot, but that's just my opinion. My theory is that Soo-Won's plan to take the throne goes back to before his father was killed, and that his friendship with Yona was a ploy. He has a good network of spies and informants, so it's possible he learned about the Fire Tribe's plotting from them.

Yeah, I really don't like that theory. Not saying it isn't a perfectly plausible theory. But I just don't like it. I would not be happy if the story turned their childhood friendship into a farce.

My current theory is that what Soo-Won told us about Yu Hong in the second episode was true. Yu Hong really was content to be General to his brother's King. I think in that year when Yona was 6 when Il became King, and Yona's mother died and Soo-Won claimed that Yu Hong killed Il... I think there's something we don't know about that explains everything that happened. Some tragic circumstances that Soo-Won and Yona never knew about but will learn about at some point. And I think the banishment of the priests from the capital and the story of the dragons being forbidden has something to do with it as well.

Hmm... I don't think that having an ulterior motive behind the formation of the friendship would make it a farce, I actually think that makes it a bit more tragic. To start a relationship with one purpose only to come to truly care about the person and value the friendship, and then have to destroy it because of the original reason - I think that's a nice, juicy plotline. I can understand your reservations, but for me all of the flashbacks were colored by a deep suspicion of Soo-Won and his intentions. Plus, if he didn't have plans as a child why would he be making such an effort to make friends and relationships in the slums with the criminal elements of the capital? The episode where he and Hak take Yona into the city and she is nearly abducted by human traffickers really confirmed my suspicions about Soo-Won's scheming going all the way back to his childhood. I think there are plenty of truths to be revealed about the circumstances surrounding Il's crowning, the death of his wife, and the death of his brother - but I'm pretty sure that most of them will have to do with Yu Hong not being nearly as complacent with his being passed over as he pretended to be. Just my opinions, which are heavily influenced by my love of ancient history and Roman politics.

The latest anime episode covered chapter 31 of the manga. I believe the manga has published 100 chapters. There are 16 volumes, the most recent was published in Japan in December. I have read up through volume 12 translated. Can't wait for more!

Surprised this thread isn't more active. But I did just find it....
What if the head of the fire tribe got rid of Soo Won's father and Soo Won finds out it wasn't the King? And we never hear about his mother or where he was raised after his father died. And why did the King ban the book but make sure Yona knew the story? And why did Soo Won say "I can't marry Yona."? Anyone got a clue?

Also. Pretty astounded when JaeHa got in Hak's way when he went after Soo Won. Yeah Soo Won appears to be trustworthy --- until he stabs you.

Zeno says Hak is irreplaceable. The next king? But I'll be really devastated if Yona leaves like Hiryuu did.
