Sorry, what I meant to say was that AMERICA SUX ND GEORGE BUSH 9/11 OBAMA ILLUMINATE CUNFIRM.

George Washington wanted America to be a completely isolated country in terms of war and to not get involved in any international conflict. WWI came along and "america pls we need help" and then after WWII everyones like "yo fuck america and their obesity and corrupt government" and considering 85% of people who say this are American citizens.. like hwhy

If the American government is that much of a big issue in your life that it hinders your ability to obtain life, liberty, and happiness.. no one's keeping you here. Go to Mexico. That should be fun.

It sounds like a wall of text explaining why America should remain in the countries they are in. America is like that annoying relative that insists on giving you that ugly racoon scarf every Christmas. The scarf is ugly, I don't want it, you don't want it, no one wants it. Now get out.

You might not want it, but you might need it someday.

Telling me to go to a different country. creative. All you had to do was answer the question, which you still haven't done. If you read the OP you would know that I wasn't talking about the lack of freedom that American has, but I understand, it's hard to concentrate when you are half asleep.

So another one of these huh? Hmm such tempting bait, but no dice.

To answer your main question though: I don't know, since I myself am a servicemember.
...
At least try to be subtle about your instigating next time.

You are over thinking this and it's going to hurt your brain. I don't know why everyone is so caught up with that one word, I got it from a user who had that as their user name with a epic smiley place over the American flag.

I sometimes hear troops say "We are risking our lives to fight for your rights so that you can say all the things you want to say."

Why is America the only country that needs to have military bases around the world to maintain the rights of their citizens? Actually, why do Americans still have to die to maintain free speech? I can name a few countries that have free speech that doesn't have imperialistic tendencies like America does.

What do you think when people say things like 'troops are fighting to protect your freedom.' ?

Edit: This thread is about blinded patriotism, as seen in the slew of comments below.

if you want to talk about about okinawa, go to this thread.

It isn't just our own freedom. I have no problems at all with them lending a hand to allies or other countries that are not in a position to help themselves. Freedom is not free. Furthermore, who are we to say that our own lives are worth any more than one in a third world country? Yes at times we flex our military's muscles and it may cost some lives but just how many were also saved in the process? By positioning military throughout the world just how much does it deter potential violence? Of course we have our own agendas in addition to this but the good far outweighs the bad. I can't see any situation where war will be popular but you should be at least a little thankful to live in a country that you can feel very safe in. I believe you should catch up on the world news a little. ISIS just beheaded US citizen Peter Kassig after holding him hostage for months. He was there not as a soldier but helping as a medical worker and is every bit a hero. He was no longer free and will never be free again. This is why we go to war.

We have defense agreements with various countries and there is still this thing called NATO. Due to this, you have more than just U.S. forces in one country such as Germany.

So yeah.. it's a bait-y thread... *sigh*

I'll answer anyway. I hope I don't inadvertently feed a troll.

So when someone tells me about the american troops fighting to protect my freedom, it's usually after I announced I don't like something about my country, and it's either the precursor or successor to a statement like this:

Honestly, Thanks. I couldn't have picked a better quote to demonstrate my point.

I honestly don't give a rat's ass about the soldiers fighting somewhere for some reason pertaining to my country's politics. I didn't send them over there. I didn't ask them to fight. I also didn't ask to be born here. It just is. Are there worse places to live? yes, but FFS, this isn't exactly the best place either, nor is it the best it can be. Let's try to tone down our country's a**holery and let's stop with the militaristic d*** measuring contest. We've one. Like nine fold over on the next guy.

And you know what? War doesn't work the way it used to. Economics are more important and more insidious... Or have you kinda fell asleep over the last few years and not realized that virtually every nation in the world has an economy that is somehow tied into the US's? Or that Mc Donald's appears in almost every nation? That's not the government's doing. That's capitalism. And that's what makes old fashioned war completely pointless. If there's anything else to add, it's that you should beware of something as pervasive as these corporations.

What few enemies we have that are armed you should now realize aren't big large armed groups of people. They're small. and precise and bound by ideologies. An aircraft carrier isn't going to do s*** against an ideology. And I don't care if they're our soldiers or someone else's I don%2

I understand that your reasons could be perfectly legitimate, but this is a touchy subject. Something that could turn sour pretty quick.

I put this thread in the same bin as others that say "God is/is not real" or "Government is stupid" threads. Ones that incite people because of the strong differing beliefs each person has.

And yes, many people are caught up on that "word" because it is about as bait-y as you can get. Especially when used without quotes implying you're voicing that as your own personal statement and not actually expressing it sarcastically. It's almost like an insult. Of course it's going to attract a lot of attention.

It's about a show of force. you put military forces in different places and keep a presence so that your ready at a moments notice. better to be ready and never need to use something than need to use something and not be ready. also a lot of military effort goes to helping allies and other countries keep peace and get through incidences of natural disasters. we help a lot of countries with those issues almost daily.

Now I never really run into troops (atleast in the Marines) that go around saying really anything about what they do for work and try to get some kind of admiration for what they do. Most of us just want to enjoy our off time same way any civilian wants to and we try to avoid any topics that relate to our jobs because we have to deal with work enough while at work. plus it feels really awkward when someone thanks you for doing the job your payed for.

For the record, the presence of "freedumb" in the topic title made a lot more sense before the first post was edited to remove the info that was inciting discussion about Okinawa.

Um...yeah believe it or not wars ARE actually planned, did you think that one country would just march its military into another country and unknowingly start a war? Come on man I know you're trying to troll but this is just stupid.

Unfortunately it takes a lot more than hating a place to get out of a country.
