So tomorrow I'm going to the hospital for a blood test. And the reason I'm bringing this up is well... I'm absolutely terrified of needles. Last time I had an injection, I blacked out. I haven't had a blood test since I was 5 and I honestly can't remember it. I can't back out because I may have something seriously wrong with me and I need to find out. So my question is, has anyone else faced their greatest fear? How did you cope? Also if anyone has any advice for me that would be most helpful.

I freak out people whenever they take blood or what not. I watch it. I like to watch the blood come out of body, and the reaction is always "Oh you can turn the other way", and I'm like No. . And needles kind of feel good when they're put in. To me at least. I sound demented right now.

Close your eyes. If they know you're scared they'll distract you and than BOP into your arm. That's all

To face a fear, you must change your perspective. Don't think: Oh no! A needles going in me!. Instead think: Oh, a needles passing through me...
Basically, simply don't think about it. Just let it flow and clear your mind. The needle isn't going to do anything bad. It's just going to pass through your body like it doesn't exist.

Don't know if that was much help, but it helped for me

When I was 5, they had to give me a vaccine for something. It took them 10 minutes to catch me and 3 grown men to hold me down so they could give it to me. I'm no where near as terrified as I used to be, to this day I still can't watch when I get a shot. I just look the other way and tell myself it's just a little bit of pain.

THREE GREAT PIECES OF ADVICE SAID ABOVE, IF IT MAKES YOU FEEL BETTER DURING IT JUST THINK ABOUT ALL THE CREEPY PEOPLE ON CRUNCHYROLL WHO BELIEVE IN YOU

AND YES, MY GREATEST FEAR WAS HEIGHTS; WOULD GET WEAK IN THE KNEES IN LIKE SKYSCRAPERS

THEN I WENT TO AIRBORNE SCHOOL AND JUMPED OUT OF A PLANE; I'M GOOD NOW

Don't look, take slow deep breaths and it will be over in seconds. If you explain your fear most Drs/Nurses are great at helping you

My greatest fear...yeah I think I will keep cowering in the nearest structurally sound corner. Facing it won't do much good...

I'm terrified of heights and tried to face it by hiking mountains, taking a plane, and looking out the windows of really tall buildings.... long story short it didn't work and I'm still mortified of heights.

I faced my fear of heights by climbing a lot. - I now feel safe as long as it's "up to me" and my abilities whether I fall or not.
And I faced my fear of darkness by going out and playing games like hide and seek after sundown. So darkness doesn't bother me at all anymore.

But there is one fear that I'll never be able to face... And that's my fear of octopuses. D:

Been afraid of them ever since that one octopus grabbed my leg as a kid.

In hindsight I realize that the octopus acted out of fear as I probably stepped on it while trying to climb out of the water, and that the octopus was small and posed no threat to me at all... But in my head it was like this gigantic kraken trying to eat me alive. Plus they're gross...

I had the same fear but specifically only the blood test. I had a bad experience with a blood test and this lead to the fear. I was able to overcome the fear by smiling intensely while the needle was inserted, also look away when it;s about to go in.

Also they've changed the way they do blood tests from when you were 5, the procedure is a lot less painful I've noticed so don't worry and good luck to overcoming your fear!

I had arachnophobia at one point, but then I moved to a place with tons of spiders.

I do not fear them anymore. Now I am them. We are everywhere. Join us.

I think that's the first gif I've seen you post that actually made sense with what you were saying.
