Should he have apologized?
Posted 11/19/14 , edited 11/21/14
Here's an article that I came across online while clicking around in search of more info about the comet landing:

I don't care if you landed a spacecraft on a comet, your shirt is sexist and ostracizing

To be quite honest, the moment I saw the title, I knew I was going to regret reading it; but I did it anyway because well, I'm a bit of a masochist like that. So I read it and by the time I had finished reading it, I was fuming. Especially after watching the heartbreaking video of this brilliant man apologizing for something he probably had no idea was such a bad thing -- wearing a shirt. I mean, I thought I was going to cry too as I watched him choke back tears to apologize for "offending" people by wearing a shirt. It was painful for me to watch that. In my opinion, he did not deserve that. Hell, I honestly believe he owed no one an apology. A shirt is a shirt. I've seen more offensive t-shirts that insulted anyone who looked at them and those people who wore them never apologized to me for inadvertently calling me an idiot. I never thought of calling them out on it either because well, it's just a shirt.

So I guess my question to you guys is: Should he have apologized?

Also, what do you think of this whole situation?

No. He was maligned entirely too viciously. For f-ck's sake, he was crying. My response to the Feminists/faux-Feminists/general assholes (whatever the hell they are) who attacked him; "ARE YOU HAPPY NOW!? DO HIS TEARS BRING YOU PLEASURE!?"

I hate our outrage culture of militant feminism. Everything they complain about epitomizes the concept of "first world problems."

No.

This is completely stupid. If he is in a country where is free to wear what he pleases then everyone else should piss off. Maybe shouldn't be the clothing of choice while being on TV, but even so...people are stupid and just want to complain. If you are offended it is a choice to be sol no one forces you to be offended, you just decide to be that way; just like being angry or happy. If you don't like it then don't pay attention to it, and please, SHUT UP. xD

The dude could have probably worn a shirt covered in dongs and people would have found it hilarious. It's a strange world.

I wouldn't be offended and I wouldn't expect an apology, but then again I'm a guy so I don't think I have the right perspective in this situation. Most of these articles are designed to get people riled up so they can get more hits on their website, I wouldn't give it a second thought. Although by linking it here, you're only helping the author who made it.

I'm sorry if that sounds "sexist and ostracizing", but the fact of the matter is people (men and women) are going to find something to bitch about no matter the circumstances (although some to a much greater extent than others).

Anyway, it's kinda cool what they did, landing a ship on a comet. That's never been done before!

It almost makes me sick to my stomach to know that this is a thing. At this point they're just grasping at straws, looking for anything to be angry about.

There are feminists and feminazi's. This guy did nothing wrong and had no reason to apologize. Those females need to clam up.

No, I don't think he should have had to apologize.

Reading that article and the comments was just... :\ I feel bad for him.

I think the shirt is, well, not very attractive, and he could have worn something more professional for such a huge event, but it does not offend me.

If this is a publicity stunt, it's pretty well-executed: I'm sure the number of people who've heard about this accomplishment is at least several times what it would have been if he hadn't worn that shirt, so in the end, I suppose it's a net positive. It's ridiculous, and I doubt there are many taking it seriously anyway, but it's certainly drawing attention to what they did.

This is so stupid that makes me laugh. There is nothing wrong with his shirt. Don't we have freedom of expression? I feel sorry for him. Dude you are too soft.
