Schadenfreude. It is the feeling of joy or pleasure when one sees another fail or suffer misfortune. Pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others.
The English language doesn't have a definite word to represent that meaning. We have terms for sadism and masochism but nothing close to schadenfreude.

When we think about it a little bit, we can agree that there are different degrees or levels of misfortune/fails.
Surely, we can't compare how "some" people enjoyed seeing Beyonce falling of a stage to Miami Heat unable to win the championship back to back to back against the Spurs. We can't equally compare a nut shot Youtube video to a blonde reporter having a diarrhea on live tv.

We have news, reality shows, viral videos, and, with the right usage of music and captions, AFV. They are direct and indirect source to highlight others' greatness and downfall.

We can agree that there are some people that would like to see people fail because of their own insecurities, inferiority complexes, and inadequateness. But there are other people that want to see people fail and enjoy seeing them fail in different reasons. I would like to know from the CR community what "other reasons" could be.

Heck, I don't mind if people consider this thread as a "fail."

Anyhow, what kind of fails/misfortunes you have seen that make your day?

What kind of fails/misfortunes that you would consider have crossed the line?

As childish as it may seems, do you wish ill will on rivals, competitors, bullies, offenders, or criminals?

Note: You can just post a FAIL meme pic, I don't mind.

It makes my day when someone is using something overpowered in a video game and someone beats them badly using something underpowered. Does that count?
I think it crosses the line when the damage done to the person, the physical or psychological harm, would have a permanent effect.

But of course. That's the line between schadenfreude and sadism, right?

Also, I completely agree. That's always amazing.

I love seeing people fail.

I think this is due to a combination of having sadistic tendencies and deriving a certain comfort from knowing I'm not in as bad of a position as those people. Gruesome things fascinate me, overall, as well.

I hate to see people get hurt emotionally. If they propose to someone and get turned down or someone gets laid off from work, I'm not about to starting laughing my ass off.

However, I won't lie and say I don't laugh seeing someone fall off their bike, step in crap wearing their new Jordans, or drop their phone into the ocean. That stuff is usually their fault and doesn't really deserve pity.
