For me, it's the badass types. Doesn't even have to be a certain type of bad-ass, either, although the tragic, the wickedly smart, and the traitorous or otherwise manipulative/two-faced ones score big bonus points. The character's basic archetype (Tsundere, yandere, etc.) doesn't really play a role as I personally am not type specific, but backstory, actions, development and all-around depth are very huge factors.

If any character is going to make it onto my bias list, then they need to be fairly well-rounded in these categories. Sure, flashy battles (or intentionally screwing with someone's head a la 'The Chessmaster/Manipulative Bastard' tropes) can be cool, but if the character in question comes off as too one-dimensional or falls short in development, I will be thoroughly disheartened.

Or, you know, make Hawkeye look like an utter amateur, and ooze bad-assery the minute you show up. That works, too.

Aaah, Archer. ♥ *cough*

Sorry for the crappy gif. Tumblr's selection stinks.

Really stupid lovable badasses like Luffy or Kamina. Those guys are so stupid and so funny you just can't help but love them. I also really like tsunderes or girls who say things in a cute tone like Tohka from date a live.

The sort of comical and goofy characters that don't quite manage to hide their more sinister selves. That's if they're even really trying to hide it at all. Y'know, those characters that are the living manifestation of mood whiplash.

Sir Mephisto Pheles (Ao no Exorcist)
Nathan (Blood+)
Kyubey (Madoka Magica)
Claire, Ladd, and most of the rest of the cast (Baccano)

I'd have to go with badasses and hilarious understanding characters. Badasses because that moment when they arrive in the action and you start grinning like no tomorrow because you know S*** is about to go down and Hilarious/Understanding characters because of all the times they made made me feel like " EXACTLY WHAT HE SAID" or "HAHAHA THATS FUNNY" that bring you into the story. Good example of that are like Kamina and Simon from TTGL

Katsura Yukiji (Hayate the Combat butler) is probably my favorite for this kinda thing, espically in season 1 If she appeared you knew you were in for a good laugh.
Major Armstrong and Winry (FMA) I actually read the manga instead but...meh, I love both of them, abiet for different reasons

sooo...comedic side charecters I guess

I guess it's tsunderes for me as well.

But I don't feel like it's really tsunderes specifically - it's more like headstrong or reserved characters who get easily embarrassed.and are almost kind of "childish" behind their exteriors.

Miyoshi Karin
Alice Carroll
Kagami Hiiragi
Miss Sakaki (That's right - I watched the dub lol)
Misaka Mikoto (Those Gekota reactions - OMG)
Hinamori Amu
Sonya the assassin

There are male examples of this as well, but the only one that comes to mind off hand is Mikoshiba Mikoto.

So, characters that are either reserved or headstrong, but are actually childish and cute deep down.

I'm a sucker for the brash bombastic types. They're forces of nature who're oblivious to anything other than their own desires.

Example: Kyōko Toshinō

Harima Kenji from School Rumble
Onizuka from Great Teacher Onizuka
Zoro from One Piece
Batou and Togusa when they banter in GitS 1st GiG
Monkey D. Garp - One Piece

Basically badass characters with a sense of humor and a touch of sarcasm.
