On my old laptop, I can barely watch crunchyroll through the web browser. I usually watch CR on my ps4 or xbone but sometimes I'd rather watch CR in bed or something.

Can it be done?

hm. well so long your laptop has a dual-core CPU it should be able to perform quickly. be sure of the power profile you are using. try using either balanced or high performance. if you are in power saver or battery, then CPU speed is greatly throttled.

Check out Livestreamer, it's a command-line app that lets you simply watch CR streams on Media Player Classic. I don't know if it supports VLC.

From the page you linked to:

Livestreamer is a command-line utility that pipes video streams from various services into a video player, such as VLC.

I am curious, however, if the CR plug-in isn't seriously out of date, and only worked back when CR was a fansub site. After all, even for YouTube, it lists "Protected videos are not supported" on the plug-ins page, and I don't see any other well known sites that use protected Flash streams (e.g., Hulu, Amazon, Funimation).

if you can't manage to stream to VLC. there are some other little things you can try. during playback of the the actual content right click and try to disable video smoothing. you can also try going to the settings option and disable hardware acceleration. also try to disable hardware acceleration in your browser options. and during advertisements right click and set the quality to low, but be sure to put it back before the ad is over. or the movie/show will suffer in quality too. and there's no way to change it after it is playing.

in any case, i am not familiar with VLC. but i wish you the best of luck!

This is pretty cool! Does Crunchyroll Terms of Use allow for us to access videos in this way?
