Are birthdays overrated?

Okay okay....it's my birthday.

Yes, AiYumega is now the ripe old age of, wait for it, 21 years old. Am I going out drinking all night? Gonna rage with some Estonian models and do blow off a dead clown's shoe?

Nope.

I'm not doing anything honestly. My family has this little Pokemon themed party going on for me later on. I did try and get a few friends together, but they're all too busy or otherwise unavailable.

I don't drink so I couldn't care less about that either.

So I gotta ask. Are birthdays overrated? Are they so blown out of proportion most of the time? My philosophy is it's just another day and another day closer to the abyss we call death but anyway do you like birthdays? Do you go all out? Do you have a party?

I haven't had a full blown party for my birthday since I was 3, so 18 years ago.

Yeah.

Edit - Thank you everyone for the happy birthdays

Happy birthday!
I think birthdays are a little overrated but they're still fun
I turn 21 in a few days and my mother was insisting on throwing a big party She wanted to invite +30 people but I told her no. We're going to go to a resturant instead

Mexicans love birthdays especially when girls turn 15
They waste thousands of dollars on a party that resembles a wedding more than a birthday party

I don't celebrate my birthdays.. People always try to though, which I don't mind at all. I just don't like making a big deal out of it.

Yep. Well, it's a nice excuse to have someone make you a cake to enjoy, but otherwise whatever, a day like any other.

Mmm, that's a good question. I think the celebrations aren't necessary beyond a certain age. I think it's important for people to let children know that, "Hey, I'm happy you were born and I love you!" while they're young enough for it to make an impression on them. Once you grow up though, I think it should just be a day that is observed and noted by others. A day that you're thankful for, more or less. That date saw fit to give you someone you care about, after all.

As far as my own birthday goes, I don't do anything for it. I rarely even remember it when it pops up.

Yo, happy birthday. Birthdays are cool because they usually involve a nice dinner. I always ask for steaks.

I was never really a party person. I generally just stay in, enjoy a few presents, maybe a nice tea and a cake but apart from that it's generally an average day. I don't like extravagant outings. On my 18th (the year you're classified an adult in England), I went out to two pubs and had about 3 or 4 beers with some friends. I didn't say much, I listened and sat down a lot more than anything. So overrated? Eh, they are what you make of them. For some they'll be a big deal, others not so much, I don't think there's any concrete answer.

BTW Happy Birthday. I haven't celebrated my birthday in like 4 years so nowadays I don't really care about it. Its just like any other day, nothing special. Besides I don't like parties and I don't drink so I don't go to bars or consume alcohol instead I just do what I always do either play games, watch anime, or fix one of the computers that is sitting in my garage.
