So, Crunchy:

I hear you've been talking about science lately. I hear you think that it is awful that science is held back and underfunded. I hear you think it's awful that science is now more about politics than about physics. But whatcha gone do about it, Crunchy?

What amount of public funding (for example, as a % of GDP) should be spent on science? What areas of science deserve public funding, it any?

With public-private partnerships, should private companies retain patents over discoveries or inventions?

What do you see as the role of science in society and government, and what do you view as the public understanding of science?

Are there any ethical problems with genetically engineering catgirls? What about foxboys? Dat Koukurri-san........

I don't know, but I do know this:

Before this decade is out, we should resolve to put a catgirl on a moonbabe!

Yes.
Morality is but a man made construct. Let us pursue knowledge at any cost!

Subjecting catgirls to a lifetime of prejudice is probably not a good thing. Neither is foxboys. We may be ready for catgirls but society certainly isn't.

I would be allergic to myself if that happened to me...though I kind of like the idea. Could become a wolf chick. That'd be fun.

I agree with an earlier post though; Society could handle this shit horribly. Plus think of those prostitution rings.

Can we have VRMMOs, though? We could do neko, usagi, okami, kitsune, etc stuff there.

I remember the case where a scientific reproduced a human leg in 2007 he almost got permanent banned from the whole community.

-If founding it should be by female scientific because you know, Feminisms now at days.

-Now imaging this "Mating Season" would be a hell on Earth for some people.

As large a proportion as is possible. Not being an economist I can't say for certain what that figure should be. As for what to spend it on, there are substantial and pressing public health concerns which have direct and impacting social and economic effects, not the least of which is an unusually large cohort of incoming retirees in the US (which will have global ramifications given the USA's central role in the international economy and the relatively smaller size of the replacement workforce).

Matters such as dementia and Alzheimer's disease will have to be addressed, as will endeavors aimed at improving healthcare outcomes for geriatric patients. If there was ever a time to invest in public health infrastructure and research (say, with a single payer healthcare system and increased public disease research funding), that time is now. Inquiry into technology which bolsters industrial and agricultural production per capita might help to cover the personnel gap a bit.

With public-private partnerships, should private companies retain patents over discoveries or inventions?

That is a complicated question. Here's a link to the way things presently work:

http://www.tms.org/pubs/journals/JOM/matters/matters-9004.html

Does that seem reasonable to you?

I'll have to address the rest another time.

I don't know, my cat's a pain in the arse as it is. I don't think giving it the personality of a woman will make things better.

right now, its not a matter if we can, or if we should.
the question is 'will the public let us?'

eventuually, genetic engeenering weill be more comon placed, and we might get away with it (think, knights of sidonia)
i mean, after all, we all eat geneticly engineered food and dont complain.
its only a matter of time before we star tinkering with human code.
