Is it a coincidence that I found this right after I just practiced playing?

Try playing both rhythms separately then slowly play them together, it will help a lot. Keep practicing more to.

unless you're a virtuoso, i think it's a common problem that most people have when starting to learn the piano... especially at an older age. you learn things easier as a child.

I believe those are arpeggios. Arpeggios are chords but played upwards or downwards, rather than pressing all the notes at the same time. You have to practice playing really slow at first, and make sure you can confidently play an arpeggio on its own first, then the melody before putting them both together. Ultimately though, once you've learned that, it does indeed take practice, just knowing how to play a melody and an arpeggio isn't enough to be able to separate both in your mind at once. I thought it was impossible but it comes to you with practice. Trust me you're not alone, it's one of the first big things many pianists struggle to get their heads around, but persevere and you shall prevail. Maybe looking up some videos with visuals will help, but yes, definitely start slow, don't try and play full speed right off the bat.

GayAsianBoy is wrong. People learn more efficiently as an adult than a child. Adult stage is when the mind is fully developed and learning potential is at its maximum. Learn things easier as a child is a false conception, rather starting early as a child as probably more accurate because of the head start experience you gain. Also, a virtuoso refers to a highly skilled musician - so yeah of course beginners would have that problem. No one is born a virtuoso or starts out as one and it is a problem everyone has until they develop the skill set for it.

For the piano, I was watching several covers to get an idea about the song you were talking about, wondering if you were talking about contrapuntal melodic rhythms or just a different rhythm in the accompaniment with the melody and it looks like the latter. If you want to show me the cover of a specific song you should point me to it because I have experience playing the piano and it would help me a lot to know which one so I can tell you. First off if its too hard for you, don't feel compelled to play it- you can change the rhythm accompaniment to fit the rhythm of the melody. If you want gain new experience then keep practicing it, for now practice left hand only to solidify the rhythm. but if you could post a link to the cover or the sheet music that would help

Practice, practice, practice. I advise against considering the rhythms as entirely separate. They're closer to two halves of a whole. Assuming that you type with two hands, consider how you type on a keyboard. Although not a perfect comparison, it's a similar concept.

I honestly don't know. If I think about it too much, my rhythm gets messed up. I just kind of let it happen (not very helpful advice, I'm sorry.)

I think, like all things, it comes down to practice. Work at the technical stuff until it becomes like second nature.

If you still struggle, fake it! Just focus on the melody and make the accompaniment up. Most people won't know any better! As Han Solo says "it's all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense."
