Well. My grandpa was in a Coma when he died. But I was standing there watching and listening when they took him off life support. The air escaping from his lungs. Made it look like he was gasping for air. But he was already gone before that.

Sooo yup.

I work at a hospital, and I've seen quite a bit people that have died right in front of me. When a patient is full code, then that means if they were to go into cardiac arrest or have respiratory problems, then our team is able to do chest compressions and intubate the patient. If they are DNR/DNI, then we cannot do chest compressions or put in a breathing tube.

We had a patient that was full code and had a small bowel obstruction who was still bleeding out, ended up going into cardiac arrest. The patient was intubated and then we had begun chest compressions. After twenty minutes of doing compressions and blood splattering everywhere, pt was pronounced dead.

Then I had to stay with a patient who was DNR/DNI. Patient initially was admitted in for a fall at home but just kept deteriorating. Literally their O2 sats were going to shit. And the patient was alone and we called family to come because this patient literally was not going to make it by the morning. I had to sit there and hold the patients hand until they passed. Thankfully the patient passed literally a couple minutes right after their s/o arrived.

Another patient had went into cardiac arrest and I remember seeing the residents cracking the chest open.

Only in video games, and it's usually hilarious when you're the healer.

My great-grandpa just passed away recently. I went to visit him with my family, and he was practically dead: he couldn't open his eyes or talk, he could barely wiggle his toe every once in a while. He didn't die until the next day, though.

Sure, I saw a motorcyclist get run over and killed while studying abroad. There was barely anything left of him or her, body was so mangled no idea what they looked like. Only reason I even saw the tail end of the accident was my taxi driver screaming and at least 10 or 15 people flooding the streets looking for police. Needless to say, definitely horrific.

Not any people, luckily. I did watch one of my dogs suddenly have massive heart failure, collapse on the kitchen floor, go through the death throes, and die before we could do anything. Eyelids are surprisingly hard to shut.
