My boyfriend and I just booked our tickets to go to Japan next year, now I'm feeling over-caffeinated and hyper. We've both been separately but this will be our first trip together so it's especially exciting, unfortunately he's not into anime so I can't drag him around to anything too nerdy or do any cosplay, but oh well. Both of us focused only on training in the dojo on our previous visits, so we are setting aside half of this trip just for doing touristy things and I'm really looking forward to it. But I have to admit that a large part of me is looking forward to having some really good fresh noodles most of all, it feels like I haven't had any since returning to America.

Anybody else planning a trip? What are you most looking forward to?

I went to Japan for a month just this last March. It was an AMAZING experience.

Random side note... Panya (bread stores) are so good. You can get a REALLY quick meal for like 300 yen (3 bucks). Since it is bread it is pretty filling... and they have some really interesting kinds of bread.

Yakisoba bread~ <3 Can't wait to go back in my third year of University.

Was there in November and stayed in the chopockiu district in Tokyo. I loved going to the micro-bars and taking the bullet trains to Kyoto.
I'm actually going back next week and stay through the meat festival. This time I will be staying in akihabara. The Mecca of otaku culture!
I recommend going to Robot Restaurant in the Shinjuku district its the best place in earth!

Went to Japan last fall on a three week trip. Enjoyed Tokyo, one of the coolest cities in the world (another favorite foreign city of mine would be Sydney, Australia). Japanese food is of course some of the best in the world, had great sushi, and who knows how many different types of noodle dishes (my favorite would have to be a seafood udon that had shrimp and scallops). Really loved Kyoto, which has some spectacular gardens and shrines, but you should also check out some of Japan's smaller towns like Takayama or Hakone. By the way, Japan has one of the best public transportation infrastructures anywhere. Just about every city and town is reached by train, if not, you can get to where you going by bus.

And yes, I've also been to the Robot Restaurant that Audien mentioned in his post, that place is a lot of fun. Think of it as a Vegas style cabaret for anime fans, with lots of robots, fighting furries, mock battles, some very pretty Japanese dancers, and over the top props. I also got a kick when they used the theme song from Tenjou Tenge during one of the shows acts. Not sure if anyone here has ever been to a Japanese theme park, but I highly recommend Nagashima Spaland near Nagoya which feature's Steel Dragon 2000, one of the tallest roller coasters in the world. They also have a decent wooden coaster called White Cyclone. Also, Tokyo Disney Seas is one of the most beautiful Disney parks, with a great ride set in a volcano called "Journey to the Center of the Earth" (based on the Jules Verne novel) and a Tower of Terror that has a different story from the American version (no "Twilight Zone" theming here).

I'm going back to my home town (Ootake, Hiroshima) over the winter holidays later this year.
And I plan on being ten pounds heavier on the plane ride back, like always.

I am going in October with one of my oldest friends for a week. I am actually going to be producing a video for a tourism campaign I started in my town called Plymouth, Let's Go that promotes my town's connection to Japan and our sister city Shichigahama. Very excited! I've never been.

Just got back from my first trip there a couple of weeks ago. I spent about a week in Tokyo and a week in Kyoto. It was totally amazing and I plan to go back as soon as I can (I'm thinking maybe next year or the year after at the latest). I've pretty much already started making a list of all the stuff I want to do next time that I just didn't get around to doing the first time. I have to say that it really did completely live up to my 20+ years worth of expectations and more.

I can't be the only one that would like to visit Japan yet NOT go to Tokyo or any other major city. I'd much rather chill with a farmer or rancher and cruise around in a kei truck.

Who am I kidding, I most likely will never visit Japan, or travel outside the US again. Just traveling around in the US can get strange enough!

Lucky for you! I've been to Japan a couple of times as a stopover on the way to the Philippines. I never went outside the airport and I hope get to do that one day.
