They licensed them, at the very least, so I would expect them to come out in the next year or two. I'm not entirely sure how successful they'll be, since they're definitely not "traditional" anime films, but I think they could do alright if they market them well.

I hope Funi gets them out in a more timely manner. Honestly, I wish they could do a like a limited day movie broadcast on he site. I bet many people would still buy the BD... Either that or get out the BD when the Japanese BD comes out in Japan at least.

Or have more instances like Digimon Adventure Tri!

Subs for the movie is out now.

Quite confusing for a story from what I've heard.

I finished it today. 2 hours of content so grab some food and drinks.

Hmm this movie seemed strange to me. It has a LOT of potential imo because of the premise, setting (yes, I really like the setting in particular of this movie during the 19th century but adapts its particular technology), and the Watson seemed like an interesting character at first.

I didn't like Friday much throughout the series as I find his connection with others to be hardly interesting. Hadaly is the breakout character imo especially in the latter half. Shame there wasn't much about her about her as the movie decided to focus on much bigger things.

Wit Studio poured a decent amount of budget into this and the animation is fairly good so I did enjoy the technical part of the movie. Quite a weird ending and seems like it's open ended.

Meh, 6/10. It's tolerable for me but I can't say that it's very enjoyable. Good potential but didn't capitalize on it fully.

Well.. I had been looking forward to it. And it started out well. But. How to put this without spoling much ? Well it just completely fell apart in the story department. As it began moving all over the place until the end where it basically realised it couldn't get to hang together and just went "screw it. MAGIC" and.. that's basically it.

And some of the characters felt quite tacked on to be honest really without doing much for the story.

So while it looked impressive. After the first.. 40-50 minutes or so i was paying a lot less attention to the movie really. It was like two different beasts. Like initially they had a good director and script.. and then it was basically constantly switching after that point.

So would i recommend it ?.. Not unless you've got nothing better to do at all.

Alrighty alrighty! I've been looking forward to this movie for months and it was my most anticipated Project Itoh movie. Was it worth the wait? The answer to that is completely subjective, but I'm gonna give my opinion on it anyway.

Story:

The weakest part of the movie for me. Like I don't understand some character's motivations, and stuff just kept happening on screen that I was like

Setting and Atmosphere:

So this was what drew me to this over over the other Project Itoh movies. I love Victorian England settings, especially the macabre. I thought the whole movie was going to be in London and with the main character being Dr. Watson and all, I though there would be some Sherlock styled mystery to it. I did not expect the Around the World in 80 days kind of roadtrip (though that aspect was actually kinda cool). So I can't say I was disappointed. The world building and how war and the economy changed because of corpses was pretty neat.

Animation:

Definitely the thing I enjoyed the most of this movie. Beautiful visuals all around. I can tolerate a meh story if the visuals are at least interesting, and Wit Studio delivered. The world looked beautiful in all it's dark bleakness, the corpses were very zombie-like, the tech was good. CGI wasn't bad (as I would expect it to be, this being a movie after all) and used somewhat sparingly. And there was the one part that looked like a mix of Don Bluth's Anastasia (anyone remember that song "In the Dark of the Night"?) and Guilty Crown (I guess some of Guilty Crown animation staff worked in this too. Wouldn't be implausible.)

Characters and voice:

So I was excited once I heard that Yoshimasa Hosoya was the lead role as Dr. Watson and that Kana Hanazawa was Hadaly. Welp, Hadaly shines in the second half and she was cool. I actually liked Firday and Barnaby for what they were, though plot makes me confused on who or what Friday really is. If you see it, you could probably get why I'm confused. The movie likes to throw references to other characters and real life people, which were pretty alright. Also, I swear I heard the Hunter x Hunter narrator doing what I remember him for, narrating! Oh, but warning, Friday screams a lot in the latter half of the movie.

Oh right, Dr Watson...this dude needs to take a class on ethics. Guys like him make mad scientists look bad, and he ain't that mad! I swear, Hosoya's voice was 80% of my enjoyment from him.

Music:

Ok, I love that Egoist song. It gives me goosebumps. Btw, it's called "Door". Door to what, exactly? Doesn't matter, song's awesome.

Overall & enjoyment:

I liked it enough. Great eye candy. It's not the worst thing you could watch if you have 2 hours. I'm still excited for the other Project Itoh movies. Egoist's song is great. Don't expect the story to wow you.

The Empire of Corpses / Project Itoh

The first of 3 movies( Project Ito ) honoring Satoshi Ito the sci-fi wwriter who died an early death !

First I give a nod to all the animation detail and Wit Studio.

Is it the best animated movie I have seen?. I would give it a 7 / 10 . It was interesting but is really complex which hinders it !

I get it a lot more after looking up the people / history

I think you need some background of the 1870's world history and literature.( A lot of scf-fi refeference) A lot of histortcial
figures and other famous characters. It does include Dr Frankestein ! Watson as the lead ( Sherlock Holnes )
