All summer I feel like I've been hyping this show up too much in my head, and I need to quit it and chill. But I just watched the OP and now I'm even more hyped. I can't wait till Crunchyroll starts streaming it and I HOPE SO MUCH that it'll be good.

I'm in the same boat. It feels like it's been so long since I heard about it, and everything so far has been so good. I'm just hoping it will live up to the hype.

And now it's time to watch all these mysteries unfold.

Episode 1

That opening animation really is something.

So pretty much this episode is all setup as there's a mystery surrounding a genius programmer named Magata, and her parents were murdered. The question is what exactly happened seeing that she says that a doll did it. So after that, she secluded herself with her research on an island, and Nishinosono and Saikawa are determined to get to the bottom of this. That's a nice start to this show, although things were mostly in setup mode here. Let's see how things build from this.

Hmm....this show.

Well, I thought it was interesting but at the same time very heavy with the dialogues. So if this show is going to be quite talky, it's going to have to keep the viewer with what the characters have to say. Thankfully, I think it did that part right.

And given the mystery aspect of the show, I find Magata to be an interesting character because of her intellect, background, and so far hard to read in terms of her personality. I wish they designed the characters that is modeled after Inio Asano though. Still, good start for now. This could be a hit or miss but so far is fairly interesting.

Good start,kinda slow.

Wonder if the pacing is always going to be this slow considering this is a noitaminA show after all and will likely only have 11 episodes.

A lovely OP animation, which reminds me of the square grid paper I used in Maths class back in the day. Funnily enough, Maths made another reappearance this season - may this trend continue

It is a show driven heavily by dialogue, much like the Monogatari series, and it should be so, given that it is a mystery show. I did enjoy the witty dialogue between Moe and Saikawa. Their intelligence will be a great vehicle for this mystery series.

The mystery so far seems to be how Magata's parents died, what was the doll she mentioned, and who exactly is Dr. Magata.
Her programming skills seems to be pretty important.

A nice but slowish setup, so we'll see how it continues to build upon it next week.



The expanded explanation on why 7 was a lonely number for those who are interested:
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 -> split into 2 groups. When you multiply the numbers contained within each group, can their sums ever be equal?

The set of numbers written differently:
1, 2, 3, 2x2, 5, 3x2, 7, 4x2, 3x3, 5x2

With the exception of 1, which doesn't affect multiplication anyway, 7 is the only one that is not paired up with another number. So as Moe said, only one group can be a multiple of 7. How lonely.

Uh-Oh, I think we found our hidden gem of the season, guys! Also, the opening and ending are both so catchy!

So, this is a very interesting start and judging from what we were given today, I feel there are some good mystery and psychological elements in this series so far. It seems everything seems to revolve around Dr. Magata and the murdering of her parents, which builds for some interesting mystery. Nishinosono seems to be an interesting character as well due to her connections with Magata. I am looking forward to seeing the plot and characters unveil as we continue this series. I am looking forward to the next episode!

Well said. The OP and ED was outstanding, musically and animation wise. Had a really good feeling after the episode. Very mature and cerebral show, which I really needed tbh, I am very much looking forward to seeing how this plays out. Outstanding work.

Well, that definitely did not disappoint. I'm thrilled to see the next episode. Once the mystery starts to kick off I'll have to make a conscious effort to avoid looking up the book's plot and ending, which will be hard because I'm already curious... Regardless, I am ready to fully immerse myself in this series.

Episode 1: Chapter 1: White Meeting

Whaaaat? OMG the art and animation stood out to me so much for a reason it was just so beautiful. The lighting and the close ups seemed so smooth. And that OP and ED animation was on point

I also like how there was barely background music, nothing to really set a mood but rather just what one would expect if they were in that situation. Like the restaurant scene, you could hear the plates and people conversing, I liked it.

The dialogues seem really intricate and math makes another appearance. Also thanks jellyblob for clarifying that problem. I had to really think about that.

Really looking forward to see how this plays out and the mysteries that come along with it. I'd say this was one of the more enjoyable first episodes so far.
