what is the point? nothing i do in this life time will mean anything in 50 years or 60 years. everything will end. what drives people to do great things?

Go play Persona 3 or watch the movies. You'll feel much better about living. Or you could read up on some existentialist philosophy.

You're only 25. How can you consider yourself a world weary and jaded person at your age? I share the same nihilistic view on life as you do, and I am certainly not bored. I grew up fearing the meaningless of the abyss, but I grew up, and realized that I might as well exist to have fun. I came up to one conclusion, and that is that the one thing more pointless than life is death itself. You don't need to do great feats to have a worthwhile life, just have a fun life. That in itself I consider very meaningful. I subscribe to an epicurean set of beliefs.

As to what drives people to do great things...I'm not sure. I am not even sure why I give back to charity.

Meaning is subjective. And besides, you clearly value your life. A lot of people rant and rave about how life is meaningless, how everything is so depressing, etc. What they forget is that... well, that's hypocritical. They're living, are they not? That clearly means they have something to live forever. They find a reason to persist in their life and thereby it must have some level of value. Even if you'd argue that such wasn't the case you have friends, family, and people who hold you dear. If nothing more your life has meaning in the form of your relationships with them. And there's nothing wrong for living simply for another person.

Even if you won't go down in history or anything of the sort there's still reasons to continue living: from mere hedonistic desires to ambitions and dreams. You simply have to find your own. Perhaps even the search for a reason to live is its own reason to live.

You are one demanding viewer!!! Could it really be any better? I won't say that the ending is the only worthwhile part of it, since apparently I wouldn't see it in that case, and it could not exist on its own, but isn't it exactly the heart of a little masterpiece

The souls of the unclean and the power of gods long since forgotten.

and a crown of bones of which to rest upon my weary head.
