I just returned from a ~1 year hiatus. i was a paid member, and I've been trying to find anime that interests me on Crunchyroll, since I like the format, the comments, etc. when the technology works. But I thought I had watched it all, which seemed kind of weird, but I have watched a lot of anime, so maybe it was possible.

Well, I randomly came across a Kotaku article:
http://kotaku.com/your-complete-winter-2014-anime-guide-1497637393

and saw several recommendations for anime, with 1 sentence summaries of what the series was about. They sounded so cool! I had always noticed the summaries on Crunchyroll did more to turn me away than get me to watch the show, but I didn't realize they were THAT bad. Well, that article made me want to watch some anime that i had been glossing over, and showed me some anime i had not been able to find on the site before, EVEN WHEN I SCOURED WHOLE SECTIONS/CATEGORIES looking for more anime o watch.

Crunchyroll, get your act together. You have some good stuff going, and you're shooting yourself in the foot, repeatedly.

You aren't tagging anime series properly, sometimes even at all. Sometimes you tag the series with only it's name.

The search doesn't have an advanced search option, a sort, or a filter, so I can't filter out things I've already watched. When i do search, I'm inundated with episodes when you should be returning series, and then there's a small pagination size, so i constantly have to go to the next page.

On a related note, the relations between series, OVAs, etc. is hard to track or follow. Some series are are all under one heading/show, some have similar names, some have different years in their title, and some Crunchyroll doesn't have rights to, so there's nothing on the site. Yet for some other things Crunchyroll has rights to, there are pages for explanations etc. There is no consistency, and no linking to form a map. For smaller series, it's a minor annoyance. However, if you want to know where to start with Tenchi or Gundam (for example), you really do need a map. I've watched a little bit of both, and it's a daunting task to try to find out that information, to say the least!

On a random note since I'm bitching: I had a show in my queue and then all of a sudden all traces of it disappeared on the site: Lord Marksman and Vanadis. I tried to find it on Crunchyrool and could not, no matter what. I even wrote a review about it. You can't just up and delete something and people's reviews of them, even if people were unhappy about it. At least leave the marker page and the reviews etc. so that people knew it was at one point there and had SOME information about it.

These are a mountain of small things that will cause you to die by a thousand cuts. Fix them before a competitor comes along and takes your user base from you. Remember that a good chunk of your competition competes with you at $0.

Check out my pages on /group/Rotten_Sushi and see if that has better tags at least... It doesn't offer descriptions, rather gives a link to episode 1 to check it out. But it is a US-centric view, and I can't tell from your profile what country you're from, so it may not be useful, then...

The show wouldn't have been removed just because some people were unhappy with it. Occasionally they will change the Mature Content rating for a show, but I can't think of anything that would have caused that for this show. However, this show, per the quote from the Site News below, is only available in a small number of regions. Are you in any of these regions? I've seen cases where folks' IP address isn't detected properly causing shows to "disappear."

Lord Marksman and Vanadis will be available to Crunchyroll’s audience in the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe excluding the Nordics, UK, and Ireland
.

Crunchy still has the show -- it's at this link /lord-marksman-and-vanadis--but if you are detected in a region it's not licensed for you'll see a message to that effect on the page.
