In general shonen usually refers to animes that are inspirational and are about overcoming challenges. They are usually light on drama and romance and heavy in competition and comedy. They are supposed to get your adrenaline pumped and make you feel good and excited. I tend to like them.

I know exactly what they are. I couldn't not like them if I didn't know what it was that I was disliking.

To be fair, I am generalizing, and there have been works that have been considered shounen that I enjoy. But when you hear the word shounen, certain works leap to mind first. Those tend to be what I'm not big on.

MOVING AWAY FROM THAT, I'm also not huge on female characters who remain crazy in love with male characters despite constant abuse. That's clearly not just an anime/manga thing, but I still don't care for it.

Your powers have clearly increased, AK. I am impressed.

Another shounen cliché I'd like to eject from play: The dude's best friend is more important to him than any love interest, family, country, etc.

Strong female characters having to have a softer feminine side, though some anime have dodged it (GitS:SAC and Black Lagoon are two that come to mind.) Most of the time females can be the biggest bada$$es around yet its a must for them to be shown blushing or being weaker than they are to I guess try to amp the feminine side

Members in harem anime not realizing when they have someone else they could be with besides the MC.

A woman is taking a bath and the main character accidentally stumbles in. Guy realizes and the girl realizes before she yells and throws him out. Rinse and repeat...forever it seems.

I think this applies more to manga than anime, but works for both.

When the guy's first encounter (or at least, at one point) with the girl is him stumbling then grabbing her boobs. Along with that, when they make the virginity jokes on a highschool romance. e.g. "Eh~ _______-chan, you haven't done it yet?" Like, why would you put that. It's so overused that it's not even funny anymore. It scared me when they used that on a middleschool romance, lol.

Okay, I love tsunderes. They're my favorite -dere's. But, it gets annoying when the whole "punch protagonist in the stomach and send them flying into the air" is overused. I'm totally fine with it, but when it happens when it's a somewhat serious moment, or at least a moment more serious than when he's normally sent flying, then it gets kind of annoying.

THE SHOUJO WIND/BREEZE!! **that one romantic moment and a random wind blows in the air no matter what season** I really don't mind it, I just wanted to point it out

This one I also wanted to point out, but don't mind-- when the char is down or secretive or whatever, then he/she's eyes are grayed out. By that, I mean when there's no "light" or "shine" in their eyes.

Has anyone ever noticed when there's a happy ending to an episode (normally when it's a group of friends who were fighting and finally came to a solution), and let's say it ends with all of them eating lunch together, there's always those two people who are fighting over food? Or simply arguing? Lol.

And also that some characters never change their casual clothes xD

I find this one cute. This is kind of oldschool btw. There's this one where whenever a character says something stupid etc everyone in the background will fall to the ground with only their feet and bent legs visible.

How about that it's 2014 and some animes still use flip-phones? Tbh I also find this cute sometimes.

That's all I can think of

Ever notice that everybody has black or brown hair except for main characters? The group of main characters usually has one person with each hair color with no repeats.

In anime fights, when one character has a trick up their sleeve or just thought of a way to gain the advantage, they make a smirk and/or go "heh", and then there's a 100% chance that whatever they thought of will work. DBZ and the Yu Gi Oh Series' are very guilty of this.

Main characters take way more time to kill than non-main characters. In Naruto, there are scenes where Jonien are taken out by the enemy throwing knives at them once. But this would never work against a main character genien, who is a much less skilled ninja.

The more arrogant a main character is, the less smart they are. Arrogant male main characters are always oblivious towards love.

My least favorite cliche is the unrealistic argument scene. When the show decides it wants tension and makes two characters artificially get mad at each other and have an argument that easily could have been avoided. Usually one character could have simply said some fact they know to clear up a misunderstanding that is causing the argument, but chooses not to say anything for no reason. Or characters get enraged at each other over something they shouldn't be. And the argument usually goes full blast, instead of someone trying to stop it from getting to that point.
