There are no easy answers. And for a broad approach that probably doesn't help: People will like what they will in all societies. If you dig deep enough, there are people in the US who, like most of here, love, like, or have a great interest in anime. Or like me, like "stories" in general so TV ad books are a good way to go, not just anime. Then there are some that don't like, but don't mind, and others who question why we, or others like it (anime) or any number of things. Flip-side: There are many in Japan that don't like anime and look down on those that do, there are those that love and idolize it, and others who pay it no mind. The issue I have with the premiss of a "society" project is that changing a couple variables, names, and values it can be applied to anything. From "Japanese Anime Society" to "American Barbecue Society" to "Australian Kangaroo Society." Its a broad approach to explain the difference in individual complex thought processes which only those individuals understand...? If that makes any slight sense...

I was tasked with doing a project on a society and I chose Japanese animation society. I need some opinions from you guys to help me. I need to know what you guys think of anime and also what people around you think of it. Do people around you think it’s stupid? Do they think it’s amazing? What do you think of it??? Please help!

Soooo we're a society now? Great! I've never been part of a society before.

Anyway I guess I'l answer your question. Many reasons. I like that there are a lot of strong, kickass female characters, which is something you don't see as often in western media. I like that there are bittersweet and even tragic endings, instead of everything always ending with happily ever after. And for some reason, only anime (and manga) love stories are the only ones that can evoke my emotions. Watching the Kirito/Asuna romance from the first story arc of Sword Art Online is probably the most intense emotional experience I've had to date. I couldn't give you a reason why that is, and I might get some flak for admitting it, but it happened and there's no use denying it.

I have no idea what people around me think about me being into anime. I've honestly never asked them, and I don't exactly go around trying to talk anime with random people, so I'm afraid I can't help you there.

Anime can give way to a new perceptive of thinking on pretty much everything.
If you watch Naruto, you get inspired with courage and might.
If you watch One Piece, the very definition of pirates will be changed

As sad as it is this side of me many people do not know. I keep it to myself because nobody seems to be into it. Doesn't stop me from watching and being a part of the community!

"Reality" TV like this is exactly what made me completely give up watching TV

I hate this stuff. It gains massive popularity for being superficial, idiotic, and promoting bad behavior. Half of them are fixed and these shows constantly get away with things that are just disgusting.

I watch anime because i feel like a lot of the stuff is higher quality. The main reason though, is that by putting everything into a 2D art form, everything looks nicer, and you can do much more with a series. If you tried to do a series, say for example, To Aru Kagaku No Railgun, as a live-action thing, the special effects would look corny and unrealistic. By using art instead of acting, you expand the boundries of what would be considered silly, and what is considered amazing

Well I think opinions vary greatly, for one

My grandmother who is 62, really enjoys some anime, I got her into Psycho-Pass, Ghost in the shell, jormungand, Fate Zero and Little witch academia (I also got her into Miyazaki movies) and she really enjoyed those. My sister is also a hardcore otaku (after i got her into it through Shingeki no kyojin).

My mother on the other hand finds it weird and doesn't understand how people get so into the characters, but my Grandmother finds the characters beautiful and interesting.

I think it depends on the show and how open the person is to more "fantastical" situations.

Anime in general is considered weird, even I a hardcore anime fan find alot of anime "weird". I personally love weird stuff, however other people might not.

I fucking love anime, I think animation is a way to create fantastical situations and stories that would otherwise be impossible with live action. Anime is an art-form and when used correctly can be one of the most influential and well crafted masterpieces in the entertainment world.

So what if you do? There is nothing wrong with that i'd say. I primarily watch stuff like High School DxD because I personally thinks it's funny as hell. I don't think you should be bothered by other peoples opinions on these matters. Most of the people judging us have read or watched something along the lines of fifty shades of grey and enjoyed it. So tell me, how different are we?

On-topic: I actually found more people who love it then I ever expected. It's still only one in a thousand it feels, but nobody judges really hard. They just don't care and think it's great for me. As long as their not being bothered with it, it's fine. Just like a lot of other things on this planet.

Most Americans are shocked by Anime because they assume that all "cartoons" are for children. Not only that, but anyone under 21 is a precious unique snowflake who would be either traumatized or corrupted by anything sexual, or by anything with guns that don't fire laser beams instead of bullets.

At my small school, I'm basically the only one who watches anime, but now it's spreading. Somehow, even though I don't interact all that much with everyone else, people are picking up anime and PC gaming from me.

If were on CR odds are we like or love anime

I love anime and manga and figurines and anime games.

I believe some people find it weird or obscure, then again I find it weird that anyone would rather watch television. (except for the flash good show)

Would I like anime to be more mainstream? Probably not but maybe a little more popular. But I don't think that will happen, since its weird to many people, and if they are watching it for the sake of it being weird they would just loose interest.

Anime is not just the Shingeki no Kyojin s

but also the ore twintails ni narimasu s

Which is why I love anime because in the west something like ore twintails ni narimasu wouldn't be enjoyed *rant start* or allowed or appropriate or whatever other stupid and hypocritical reason that their damn stick up their ass wouldn't allow *rant over*

If you watch Reality Tv or worship Karkashian's A**, you are okay and a normal regular dude. If you watch Anime or read manga, you are a disgusting Weaabo who hate his/her own culture.

I'm not making this up, this is what's happening at my college right now.
