Welp, it looks like Evangelion is getting HD Blu-rays. Who is excited?

The HD-remastered Neon Genesis Evangelion Blu-ray box will contain all 26 episodes of the original television anime, as well as the video format version of episodes 21-24.

Guys don't get your hopes up yet. This is a Japanese release, and it's Evangelion. Brace yourselves. Unless Funimation (Who's been having licensor issues because of the EVA 3.0 dub) gets their hands on it, it's most likely to stay Japanese only.

Just saying.

You can polish a turd all you want, it's still a turd. Crappy animation is just more obvious when put into HD, at least that's my oppinion. Call me when they decide to cut out things like the elevator ride of doom and reanimate all the painfull to watch dialogue scenes , then we can talk about me buying this stuff. Untill then, I'll stick to the rebuild movies, if that stuff ever gets released here.

*In your opinion.

In my opinion, i'd hate it if they removed things like the elevator scene; that scene was slow, awkward, and impossible to sit through, basically everything that the scene needed; The series' status as 'A turd' is merely your opinion, and the fact you want them to change something loads of people already love is kinda selfish.

If you don't like Evangelion personally then don't watch Evangelion and watch something you'd prefer, don't demand that something change to your personal preference; that's like if i complained that the rebuilds had to much of a focus on action, and then yelled on the internet for ages trying to change it,it's obvious people already like them and whilst i'd prefer people to enjoy the original more i won't stop people from watching it, nor demand they change to my liking.

No need for that, I already put that in my post ;)

You seem to have not understood me. Let me clear things up a bit.
My feelings about the entirety of Evangelion would be too much to go into right now, that is something we can discuss another day (not that I really want to). I was solely talking about the Animation. It is no secret that Evangelion looks like crap. And that has nothing to do with me not liking the series. I mean, I love Berserk, but I still admit that it looks pretty bad a lot of the times. In Evangelions case this has a lot to do with the budget running out, which is why a lot of the dialogue scenes are painfull to watch. You understand what I am saying? I am not talking about the content, I am purely talking about the Animation. The dialogue scenes are modelled to fit the rather small budget which is why some of them look incredibly bad. There are so many still shots in this series, so many "hiding the faces so we don't have to animate them" cases and even more moments where nothing at all is happening on screen. This is what I am talking about when I refer to polishig a turd. Because that pretty much requires minimal effort but brings in the big bucks at the same time. I'd rather see them reanimating the series, turning it into something I would actually call watcheable by todays standard, replace/cut out scenes like the elevator of doom or the train station of boredom, which where obviously made because of budget problems. That is something I would be willing to spend money on. But this? No, thank you.

I hope that you get my point now.

Thanks for not exploding in a huge pile of nerd rage (props for not falling into the same trappings as many a forum poster), but i believe my point still stands; i'd personally hate it if they changed the long awkward animations in certain parts of the series as i believe that to be a huge part of the 'content' to which you refer. I used the elevator scene as an example, the long awkward pauses provided this really weird, alienating feeling to the conversations later in the series, it made the series less action-packed or epic yes, but it contributed to the feeling of isolation that Shinji goes through throughout the series.

So in short, i don't think the animations crap; yes i understand it was made with huge budget constraints in mind, but i think they used them effectively to give the awkward, creepy attitude the series was going for. Though i understand your problems with the show in that regard, i personally believe editing scenes like that to include more movement would actually take away some of the effect they bring.

Though i understand it's not for everybody those scene offer something you just don't see out of a lot of shows; enjoy the rebuilds though as they seem to be the alternative you seem to want; newer animation (though i dislike their usage of CG whereas the original used hand-drawn), more action and movement in the scenes, less awkward elevators, what's more to want! =D

lol. This guy here...

In other news, I'm pretty excited. I hope it comes to the States. I don't really care for the dubs of Evangelion. The cast has always been terrible in the dub. I'm fine with the subs.

I wouldn't go so far as to call them terrible, but to each their own.
