As someone who's worked in a toystore for most of his life, kids have always bought this stuff. Its never gone down in purchase quantity, there's just not any 'cool' electronics to talk about this year. Also, the tutrle they have in that first picture is very VERY cheaply made and I can't recommend any parent buy it. three out of five of them are sent to my store broken in the packaging before we even get them off the truck.

That's an interesting point. I guess in a way though, I can still take heart in the fact that innovation in these areas is slowing down, which means the novelty is still wearing off.

I want that sand. I hope I'm not on the naughty list this year.

You know what the sad thing is? Toys don't last a long time. Now it may be different for the more creative types, such as sand or legos, but overall toys are such short lived compared to modern technology.

Dear Santa,

I've been relatively good this year. Some sand would be great.

Love, Rin.

I have a box of my old toys that would prove that statement wrong.

That sand is better than regular sand though. Kinetic sand is where you can at least sculpt something.
I wouldn't mind getting it for Christmas.

This stuff is freaking awesome! I spent a good 30 to 45 minutes playing with a kinetic sand display at a toy store while I was shopping for my nephew. Not only is it fun to play with it feels so cool.

And that article had a picture of puppy surprise. I remember those, and the kitty version. The mother had a velcro pouch for her babies in her tummy. I also feel like I've dated myself now...

And there were those other toys, Kitty Kitty Kitties, with marbles in their heads. I had a bunch of those. They need to bring those back. They had bunnies too, that moved their ears. My god, where's ebay I have to go buy my childhood relics. X_x
