It blows my mind to think that there are some people in this country who still believe we live in a post-racial society. The combination of systemic racism and an increasingly militarized police force have demonstrated that it's still an issue that's not going away any time soon and it's something we all need to be able to have mature conversations about.

Should we get rid of the police? Definitely not, but there needs to be far more accountability for police officer's to do what their actually supposed to do. Protect and Serve. That applies to ALL people from ALL walks of life.

Police are important. However, I try my best to avoid them. Nothing against them, but they can make me nervous, and I've had cops be pretty rude to me before.

get rid of Google
- can't get taxed
- won't expose the deranged
- won't expose the corrupt
Google is like superman.

but if you meant all authoritative forces become abolished... then the inevitable anarchism will happen.

Humans are intelligent, however we are like sheep, we need a shepherd to give us fear through dogs, and control through a cane.

Imagine all the chaos that would ensue, as a result.

Sporadic chaos for a little while, and then modern equivalents of walk-in town sheriffs and deputies of the Old West would arise. The groundwork of official police would begin anew, and the cycle would continue.
Modern police are the "evolved" versions of town/city guards seen throughout history. Such an ancient phenomenon cannot simply disappear.

Wouldn't that be fun.

The problem isn't the police, the problem is getting rid of the corrupt police.

Impossible. Even if police forces dissipated, people would just put other individuals in charge to do the 'policing', and then over time we would just end up with police forces again.

Apparently, everyone hates them now because they're all racist bastards who love killing innocent black people.

So I say we just let them all go on a permanent holiday so they can't shoot black people anymore.

That should work, right?

**If you cannot sense the sarcasm in my typed up words, then I'm telling you now that I'm simply being sarcastic.

However, I am pretty interested in what you think would happen if the police get fed up with the mob of people screaming for their heads and decide to go on strike. Like actually refuse to work and respond to any calls.. Obviously, that's highly unlikely, but just WHAT IF?

I wouldn't say that crime would increase over all as a result of this, but I would say that it might go up and then, when people where sick of it, descend as a result of communities policing themselves. I think it would be a mixture of people taking lives into their own hands and people not valuing over people so much for a while though.

Vigilantes would emerge eventually and it would cause a breakdown in government, then anarchy then a re-emergence of a government with a police force. At least, that's what I believe would happen.

People around me have always said that Scotland wouldn't take any shite from neds even if the police couldn't stop them. Unfortunatley we'd probably end up not taking any from the government either and it'd all break down when people stop paying taxes.

Interestingly enough psychopathy has always been studied in terms of the criminal until more recently. Turns out there are a mess of them that are law abiding because they don't see breaking the law as being advantageous, the risk is too high. That sort would make excellent cops since they aren't as prone to be swayed by many emotional entanglements. They would simply want to do the best job with the minimum of effort or fuss. I don't see most of the public being comfortable with it though (emotional entanglements and an emotionally charged diagnosis). The other problem though is that you would have to coerce them generally. They can get what they want and better pay elsewhere, so why would they even apply? Being a cop isn't very rewarding IMO. I have family that do it. I think they made a poor choice of career. You can get better money, less hassle, and you don't have to deal with all this crap every time a member of your profession screws up. No thanks, I'll take something more rewarding with less responsibility and BS.

Reminded me of this: http://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/the-pros-to-being-a-psychopath-96723962/

Pretty fun and interesting read.

Well, that was interesting. I've received several diagnoses over the years. Most have turned out to be incorrect, but there has to be something going on for reputable doctors to keep giving diagnoses, right? I had never considered the possibility that I am any form of psychopath before reading this. Apparently my psychology education was less complete than I had been lead to believe. I am not sure how I should feel about this. Once I have insurance again I'll have to find the best doc my plan covers and have him check me out without any background information about previous psychological examinations.

Police work in other countries. The US needs to get over its institutionalized racism.

People would run around on their basic instincts and take what they want. Would be a complete disaster.
