As much as I love her voice now, I hate her voice as a teen! It sounded like she was a drugee. @_@

The Best Damn Thing (2006–present)

Lavigne's third album, The Best Damn Thing, was released on April 17, 2007 and debuted at number one in the U.S. The album was produced by Dr. Luke, Lavigne's husband Deryck Whibley, Rob Cavallo, Butch Walker and Lavigne. Travis Barker recorded drums for the record. The first single from the album was "Girlfriend", which became Lavigne's first single to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100. On Ryan Seacrest's radio show Lavigne said that "When You're Gone" would be the second single.

Lavigne has been doing a small tour to promote The Best Damn Thing, with tickets available only to members of her fan club. She began the tour in Calgary, Alberta, and played for a crowd of around two hundred. This show was aired on television on April 2, 2007, on the CBC Network.

The Best Damn Thing sold 19,000 copies in a few hours in the UK, eventually selling over 60,000 copies in its first week. It became Lavigne's third number-one album on the UK Albums Chart. To date it has sold over 202,000 copies in the United Kingdom.

The album also debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 with about 288,000 copies sold, less than Under My Skin, which sold 381,000 in its first week. This is Lavigne's second number-one album, after Under My Skin. The Best Damn Thing remained at number one in its second week on the chart, selling about 121,000 copies. To date, the album has sold more than 952,000 copies.

In Canada, the album debuted at number one with 68,000 copies sold, slightly more than Under My Skin. In its second week, there was a 62% sales drop to around 26,000 copies.

In Japan, it debuted at number two. In its second week of release, after Lavigne's Music Station performance, it reached the number-one spot, selling 120,000 copies. This is her second number-one album in Japan. To date it has sold 712,623 copies.

It peaked on the Taiwanese Albums Chart at number one, and it had already been certified Gold within three days when the album was available for pre-order. It went Platinum when it was released to stores.

In Australia, the album debuted on the ARIA Albums Chart at number two and shipped over 35,000 copies, being accredited gold by ARIA. The Best Damn Thing is currently her lowest peaking album as her previous albums both made #1. It has been certified Platinum.

In Spain, The Best Damn Thing debuted at #9, far off Under My Skin, which debuted at #1.

So far, 3.2 million copies of the album have been sold, according to United World Chart.

On May 25, 2007, Lavigne, her co-songwriter Lukasz Gottwald, and her record label were sued by songwriters James Gangwer and Tommy Dunbar over claims that her song "Girlfriend" infringes on their 1979 song "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend", originally performed by The Rubinoos. In June 2007, Canadian singer-songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk, with whom Lavigne wrote the majority of her second album, Under My Skin, spoke to Performing Songwriter magazine about Lavigne's songwriting, saying, "I mean, Avril, songwriter? Avril doesn't really sit and write songs by herself or anything. Avril will also cross the ethical line and no one says anything. That's why I'll never work with her again. I sent her a song two years ago called 'Contagious', and I just saw the tracklisting to this album and there's a song called 'Contagious' on it — and my name's not on it. What do you do with that? See, I won't call the lawyers, I'll just tell you. Art should not be subject to that kind of controversy."On July 6, 2007, Lavigne denied both accusations in an open letter on her website, claiming that she had "never heard the Rubinoossong in her life" and also that she is considering taking legal action against Kreviazuk with regards to her allegations, which she considers "damaging to my reputation and a clear defamation of my character".

On July 10, 2007, Chantal Kreviazuk retracted the statement she made in the aforementioned interview. While the titles were the same, the actual songs were entirely different.

On the site of The Black List Club a fan asks to Evan Taubenfeld: "Evan, Avril has helped you to write songs for your cd, since you it have helped with its and all the rest?" and Evan answers: "Yes, she and I have written Contagious originally for me but she sings it decidedly better."

The song "I Don't Have to Try," also stirred up controversy. Similarities between this song and Peaches' 2003 song, "I'm the Kinda" has sparked further plagiarism speculations.

Lavigne recorded a cover of the John Lennon song "Imagine" as her contribution to the album Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur.

The song "Hot" will be the 3rd single, according to Weiting.

Dunno what should be great about her, some white chick doing bad music. *shrugs* But I don't want to be unfair here. I don't like the whole rock stuff to beginn with. So I guees, people who know and like the genre better can judge her and not me.
