Do you work to live or live to work? I like to think that I work to live but in reality, with having a forty hour work week and working eight hours a day, I maybe have two to three hours to myself per day for what I REALLY want to do (after making dinner, house upkeep etc).

The forty hour work week is old and inefficient but it is what out society is based on. Employees do not need to work 8 hours a day for companies to survive. In fact, no one actually works the full 8 hours. Employees maybe put in a solid 4 to 5 hours of productivity a day while the rest of the day is spent wasting time. Working less hours would boost productivity due to increased time off which increases employee happiness. Happy employees work harder.

To those people that work, do you work to support your goals and dreams outside of your workplace or do you work the days away and only focus on your job?

You can also proceed to this:

Noble Job vs Real Job. What's Your Opinion?

What do you think of having a job?
What makes it noble?
What makes it real?

Where does a job becomes a career to you?
Or career becomes a job to you?

Money is life. Tricky question as both things are essentially the same. Unless you love your job and it is your life.

I think I work to live. In truth I only work four days out of the week and those are night shifts. I find that I don't need that much money to get what I desire and not starve myself of necessities.

I work 11 to 12 hours a day 5 days a week. getting a wage of $17.00 and hour plus over time. Yet after my bills, house, car, phone, water, electric, food, ext. I am left with nothing... I don't see how anyone could live with a 8 hour job getting only 40 hours of work in making the same or less than me. (how do you do it?) so yes I work to live...! My life revolves around work, even if I rather be doing something else.. because I have bills to pay. (that is life.) And it sucks.

How is money not life? tell me if you can live without earning money yourself, or taking money from others. My life may be a tool, but fuck it I enjoy life. I also enjoy money.

somewhere in between. I work so I can pay my bills and get the things I want so that in my spare time I can do the things I enjoy.

But I live extremely modestly, and the things I enjoy doing are things I'd probably turn into a business if I had the time and resources to do. (meaning what I do for a living isn't exactly what I aim to do).

I enjoy my multiple jobs equally, and would probably do them (especially since now I'm not a 9-5'er but more of a consultant/handy man) if I didn't have to.. Except make no mistake about it. I get my ass out of bed at hours I'd rather not and go work outside in the blistering heat and the freezing cold because, damn it, I need the money, and it's pretty unpleasant otherwise)

so yeah.. a little of both. Still wish I made more money so I didn't have a constant worry about bills or the unnamed future.

I believe a nice medium in both tends to work out the best. Have a job that you think could turn into a great career and enjoy, but is also capable of paying the bills.

Also, simply living within your means goes a long way towards becoming content with quality of life. Just my opinion as someone who isn't terribly materialistic or demanding.

You've misread what I am trying to convey. In my humble opinion, life is achieving one's potential. Money is simply a tool used to making living life easier. This is why the people who live to work, are essentially "not living" because they are just doing the minimum whatever that is. They aren't fully participating in this thing called "life". You can enjoy money and life, but you can't be considered to be "living", if your life revolves around only acquiring money. However, you can enjoy life without money, to answer your question regarding money and life. If you want the original author of my thoughts, read Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics. Cheers ^_^
