Hello everyone,

The (Pre-)Kickstarter for Grisaia no Kajitsu appears to have hit a bit of a snag:

1) Talks for the game took longer then expected which as delayed the Kickstarter (it was meant to start in November)
2) Frontwing wants the "All-ages" (not sure if it can still be called all-ages all they really did was remove the h-scenes) and 18+ to be treated as separate games. So the Kickstarter will be for the all ages-version
3) Sekai Project is attempting to see if they can make it so those that want the 18+ version and backed the Kickstarter can get it for free/cheaper so long as the Kickstarter succeeds.
4) Then there is also this "Pornographic material" from the Kickstarter Prohibited Items list. Though apparently this may not apply to Anime/Manga/Visual Novels, but I don't for certain.

So how does this make you feel?

Personally I don't mind that much. Though I can see this potentially having an effect on what happens in the future for VN's that have an 18+ version and an all-ages version.

Oh, that is interesting. I wondered what was up when nothing happened on November despite their prefundia.

It sounds like no matter what work around they do, they are basically using Kickstarter to fund it in a way. At least indirectly. I never really cared for H scenes in games, they always felt tacked on when introduced in "serious" games.

When was it, AX or Otakon (I remember Clannad was at a smaller con, so I think it was one of the big ones)? Anyways, whenever they said they had it - that should have been the green light. I don't really care for Kickstarters when they already have the permission to bring it over. It isn't really a Kickstarter with that. To use Kickstarter in this way, they don't really appear to be confident in their product to recover from their investment and rather always float "in the green". While many "otaku [lol]" don't care about images like that, I am certain there are a few people that find what they're doing to be unsightly from a business perspective. Every day the -Kickstarter- is delayed makes me think more and more about this issue.

Sekai Project do not get anything from the guys that made the original game to help fund it. So while they get permission to bring it over they need some way to fund it so they use kickstarter to fund the translation (which leads to any and all copies sold going directly to being profits). I imagine a lot of companies wish they could do something like that. But at the end of the day it is similar to how an indie game developer uses kickstarter to help fund their game.

Let us agree to disagree then. I still believe in the old form of business it seems. I dislike buying promises of a good product. I prefer buying a good product. That's all. Thank you for being polite and citing why's.

Sure that is fine with me.

Everything below this line so that I don't double post.

After having reading some more on Sekai Projects new forums (they have had them for about a month). koestl (who is going to be the translator) said that Frontwing as a "cautious attitude towards releasing adult content in the West." He also mentions "The Vita edition of the games are M-rated and make relatively minor changes to non-sexual content, while adding new CGs and scenes. We do not plan to remove or "censor" content from the Vita game, and may restore some unnecessary textual changes where possible."

It as also been mentioned on the forums (by someone other then koestl) that the vita version is mostly the same as the original PC version. All the vita version does is remove actually seeing the sex and changes the dialogue slightly. They still make references to having sex though in the vita version based off of what I can find.

I have been wanting to find somewhere to talk about a niggling issue I am having, that hopefully someone will be able to help out with.

With regards to Grisaia and, more specifically, the 18+ version, it goes without saying that the main character has sexual relations with all of the girls, with only Amane being 18.

I am concerned about trying to import a physical copy into the UK as I am worried that, if checked by customs, it would be classed as child p0rnagraphy.

Does anyone else have this concern? Or am I just overreacting?

Update from koestl:

Ok! So the Kickstarter will begin late Monday and run through the end of January: https://twitter.com/sekaiproject/status/5440661730803220502

Re: those interested in the 18+ versions - the party who will be handling these releases is committing to offer a discount in some form to backers of the KS. We can't offer any further details right now. Something official will hopefully be coming during the campaign itself, pending approval from everyone involved.

He also notes in another post shortly after that one that he "will push for a very meaningful discount or free games."

Editing this old post since I hate double posting.

Well they have launched the Kickstarter and have already almost meet the goal of $160,000. Denpasoft is going to be handling the 18+ version so long as the Kickstarter succeeds (and it will since at the time of this edit they are at $137,626).

$80 gets you a digital copy of all three games
$120 gets you a physical copy of all three games

I personally went with the $80 and will probably not add the $120 just so I can have the physical copies as collector items (like I am planning to do for Clannad).

Someone on the Sekai Project forums presented this interesting idea:

"Personally, I do believe that the best tactic for those who are on the fence on whether to back it at all or not, is indeed to just back it at $1.

Why?

If there are tens, or hundreds, or maybe even thousands of backers to the project who pledge just $1... That is something concrete that Sekai Project can point out to Front Wing, and specifically argue that the series does have a huge following, but at the same time many can't be convinced to make a deeper commitment to it unless Front Wing can relax their stance and give us some certainty on the 18+ issue."

In short if you are skeptical of backing this project in fear that the 18+ version will not come then you should back $1. Two reasons 1) you will get email updates that should help you stay up-to-date on the project (they will probably make an update talking about the 18+ version once they have more information) and 2) Sekai project can try and use that to say hey their are people that don't want to back this project as much as they want to because they are worried that the 18+ version will not happen.

Though sadly they don't have an $1 tier so you may have to select the $30 tier and lower your pledge to $1 but I honestly don't know how that would work. I am going to ask on the Sekai Project forums if they can add a $1 tier so that those that want to engage in that plan can without it being to much of a hassle.

Ok so I am editing this post again. It is started to get fairly long but like I said I hate double posting.

So this is something Dovak (co-founder) said on the Sekai Project forums:
"So here's what I can say right now regarding 18+.

We know people are upset that currently none of the money they're pledging towards is going to that goal. We're working towards a solution we just need time. Right now is the busiest time for companies in Japan. Why? Comic Market, it's a big thing for them so once that rolls past at the end of the year. We'll be able to firmly hammer out what we wanted to do.

As posted on our socials, we are aiming for January to finalize talks about the situation and hope to have a solution that everyone is happy with."

It looks like the Kickstarter goal has already been met! It took only 14 hours to do so. Impressive.

As long as they eventually do an 18+ version, I'm fine with it. The sex scenes play a rather integral part to the story in places. Plus? Amane's oppai.

You're overreacting. Basically, the company just has to slap a sticker on the front of the game screen when you start it saying that all the characters depicted within are the age of, or over the age of, 18. This works for characters who are lolis as well. I buy officially English-translated eroge from MangaGamer regularly, and that's what they do. No problems.
