She is the worst of the bunch now that I think about it.

Yeah, I know she saved him from being rejected but gat damn, she could've gone about it a different way.

I prefer crazy over boring. At least in anime.

At least Marika won't do anything to actually hurt Raku.

Fuck Onodera though. Terrible bland character. Ruined that pic.

It's the greatest cliche, you heretic. I want a childhood friend to marry, but sadly, I'm all alone.

Lol they way you described it made me laugh. Not to be rude or anything it was just funny.

I don't think what he said is funny. That's pretty much what I feel too, but unfortunaltely I didn't have a close female friend when I was a child. I too think chidhood friend romance is the best because of its innocence and sublime cuteness. Also, people grown up together become closer and can trust each other.

I do. For it's the way he said it. And second I've had a childhood friend and it rarely works out the way it does in Fiction. For one there's the Westermarck effect. It doesn't just apply to siblings, you know.

Do Yusuke and Keiko from Yu Yu Hakusho count?
Granted Yusuke was the biggest obstacle to that relationship, not a romantic rival.

Yes. But that doesn't mean it's a good thing. In some aspects fiction is better than reality.

But again, it doesn't necessarily apply to all childhood friends as well. In my opinion, no way a romance between people who met as mature adults or even as late teens can be as tender and innocent as one between childhood friends.

I personally don't feel anything at all when I watch a romance between people who met as adults (or even worse, a romance between divorcees or widowers). To me, first love is the only love, even though I don't force my view on others, of course.

Westermarck doesn't really work if there is a period of separation or if it happens after the age of around 7 from what I've read. Both are pretty common in the realm of fantasy.

You're kinda contradicting yourself here pal. Either that or you're just confusing me. But from how I read what you were saying it was coming across as you wanted to have a childhood friend romance like the ones you've seen in fiction. And honestly it's really not all that it's cracked up to be.

Contradicting myself or confusing you how? My point of view is this: childhood friend romances are much better than any other kind because they start in the most innocent period of people's lives, because the first love imo is the purest one and because people who know each other for that long can trust each other more easily. Another good reason to be protective of them is the fact most people seem to dislike them without giving explanations. I myself never had a close female childhood friend and started appreciate childhood friend romances already as a teen, therefore too late for me. BUT, even though I don't have that kind of romance in my personal life, it doesn't prevent me from being happy for others who have it, either in fiction or in real life.

So, what is it you consider confusing here? You may disagree, but I don't get it what it is not to understand.

First one that came to mind was Baka Test

As for Haganai, as long as it isn't a harem/open end, aren't both Yozora and Sena technically childhood friends of "Eh? What was that?"-kun?

Yozora and Kodaka remember, Sena doesn't. Not remembering is tantamount to not doing it in the first place.

Oh, and I am on the Onodera train, but she's probably not going to win. I could see it now. I hope she wins, but If this series turns out like all the rest she will not win.

She reminds me too much of Haruna from To Love Ru, another character I didn't like.
