In what they believe summarized.

I only know 1 atheist that is not a narcissist when we speak of god.

They believe that nothing happens to them when they die. No heaven, no hell, no afterlife, no reincarnation, none of that. I guess they just believe we decompose and fade into nothing.

Belief: Christian.

Nothing really. Me, nothing of higher power or the almighty. Since there's science. But that doesn't stop me from saying, "god damn it". It's not like I believe in it. It just grew on me to say it like that. I do mock a lot of religious believes though, most likely afterlife, usually as an insult to friends.

Its philosophical realism acknowledging only the material world by what they know; some passionately believe there is no god, its a fairy tale, etc., while others more open-mindedly agnostic profess there COULD be more. The latter seems more reasonable in the possibility of an afterlife. Athiesm is an umbrella term for many beliefs and practices, and some religions like Buddhism could be classified as athiestic.
-Christian.

It differs from atheist to atheist, but the most probable theme is a higher support of an "afterlife" devoid of deity involvement.

My alignment is pragmatic agnosticism (aka: apathetic agnosticism/apatheism).

i don't follow any religion i was just wandering how they would classify me. there are so many classifications. one other thing we can be sure of if you exist you will be titled damn it! weather you like it or not i wasn't sure what kind of answers to expect when i started this thread. i really didn't even know if atheists had beliefs at all and some of you don't i will give you that. but surprisingly many of you do and i have seen a more live for the moment attitude than i expected. i like it. I have never agreed with the live for the day you die and reach heaven type of lifestyle. to me that is silly. then why are we even here experiencing all these crazy emotions and pain and pleasure and excitement. if this is just supposed to be a waiting room for heaven i would rather never see heaven it sounds like a boring place with too many restrictions. so i agree with lots of you guys on that matter i don't think god exists either and the devil is even more far fetched. but i do feel i have a soul just because i can feel its interesting to hear someone say otherwise cause i haven't ever questioned that fact in my life.

I've been an atheist since I was seven, not long after I was transferred from a standard primary school to a christian one and wondered just who the hell everyone keeps talking to with their eyes shut.

I simply cannot believe that a god can exist, at least not in the form that theists believe in. In my head, it just goes against all logic and understanding that I have built up in 24 years.

I should point out that I have no problem with theists, I just cannot comprehend their blind faith in their beliefs.

Also; as far as an afterlife goes, I just see death as the moment that one's mind ceases to function.

Oblivion, after we die we stop existing, only our decomposing shell is left behind, same as with any other kind of life.
Personally I believe that our inability to cope with out own mortality, as we are only lifeforms on Earth fully capable of understanding it, is majorly responsible for existance of religion. Deluding yourself into believing that there is something more waiting for us makes things easier.
While I might be open to possibility that there is a power in universe which we may perceive as a diety, with most religions that currently thrieve I can't help, but uo come to a conclusion that they are somewhat backwards. As in, god was created by humans, not the other way around.

This pretty much sums it up and the other posts answered the question too.

Like many of the posters in this thread, I'm unconvinced that an afterlife exists. I believe that you just die. I imagine life after death would feel like life before birth. You become nothing in the nothingness. This thought makes the most sense to me.

I really hope there isn't another life after this one. If I truly thought there was, I would kill myself so I could work on getting my next life over with

the common belief is the lack of belief in gods.

any other beliefs don't come under atheism, or is there a principle for being "atheist".

as far as my beliefs are concerned, my mind's pretty much made up and solid. science is the only objective truth for me in this universe, anything else is subjective. mythologies can never be science, end of story.

I'm not an atheist, but my ex was. To sum up her thinking, she didn't believe in a higher power or an afterlife. Her thought is that she didn't need to believe in something or anything to make sense of this world, her own existance was enough.

BTW, she found such talks boring; atheists don't sit around and ask themselves what non-atheist believe.

To paraphrase the stand-up comedian Billy Connolly: "Where do you go when you die? The same place you were before you were born!"
