So these day's I've been watching Clannad. Finished the first season, and I'm in the second one. Right now I'm at (MAJOR SPOILER)....

And I'm not sure if I can continue. "What's the matter Mr. Narfington?", you ask. "Can't handle all the feels?"

Honestly though, I'm finding I'm having the opposite problem. I'm feeling very little. Don't get me wrong, this is definitely a great anime and it's chock full of touching moments. And I don't think I'm not an emotionless robot. I cried pretty hard during Fuko's story arc. But at some point along the way, the emotional connection was just broken and it became harder and harder to continue. So I find myself with two options:

A) Force myself to finish it and hope I see something that reignites the spark. Even if I don't I can still say I finished it.

B) Give up for now, put it on the shelf, and try again in a year or two.

I don't know what to do, so I need some advice.

Thanks!

You couldn't cry because your heart was already broken.

But anyways, I'm gonna keep it short. The second season definitely has more tear-jerkering moments later on, which may reignite the spark. I don't think you should give up when you've built up your emotional attachment to the characters. Keep on going, and maybe you might find yourself with those onion ninjas.

Putting it off for a while always works for me when I feel I've dried my tear ducts.

But, following shortly after that occurring event in which you find yourself in, something even worse may happen, along with a very wonderful emotional build up. So who knows? That event could spark something. The new life without you-know-who.

Everything about Clannad destroyed me, built me and then destroyed me again. Rinse and repeat. So. I can't really relate.

I would drop it for now and try it again in a few months.

Also why did someone report the opening post to a moderator?

It's fine to take a break from it. I personally took a 6 month hiatus from K-ON, funny cause it became my favorite anime of all time now, until I finally finished it around July.
Taking a break from anime, or one anime, is perfectly fine just make sure to remember to watch it.

I say you have come this far and there are not many episodes left so keep watching or dropping it a few weeks would not hurt much.

However, I sincerely, strongly, wholeheartedly recommend you to NOT stop there because what happens next was something that made Clannad AS for me. I went on an anime rush after Clannad AS because of moments like that.

Well this morning I felt better about it and continued watching. Needless to say I was very impressed. I guess with all the foreshadowing of the event I mentioned in my original post, I expected things to take a turn a lot darker afterwards. That said, the ending left me a pretty confused. I mean, I kinda understood it, but things got pretty...abstract. If anyone has a good theory or explanation, then please leave it here. I may also check out the original visual novel at some point. Think I heard it was brought, or being brought over, or something to that effect. Anyway, thanks to the people who left advice. I think I need a break now.

Its currently in the process of being brought over. (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sekaiproject/clannad-official-english-release). sure there is unofficial versions out there, but if your like the story then ya should support the actual makers.

anime usually cut out alot of the source material, so to understand it fully you'll most likely have to go through the VN. I havent watched the anime for a long time, and am waiting for it to be brought over before delving into the VN (sadly, its not dated till near end of next year).

That's exactly why I refuse to watch it. It was like "touching story.... AND THEN SHE DIES!!!" over and over again, with each and every girl. I go through a few of them, and then just said "fuck this shit". I don't mind a sad story but it just feels masochistic to watch. I kept teling myself I'll watch it.. And I tried to pick up season 2,figuring on a better story, but nope. and to be honest, it did start getting more and more boring, and yeah.. just not happening.

I say drop it. If you made it to the point where it's no longer affecting you because it's becoming formulaic, you'll never get over it.

The ending is really amazing, but you'll probably get confused at first. Once you understand it the show is even better.
