Yeah, the topic and answer is pretty much subjective.

I don't know about you, but there was less good anime before then.

I actually feel the opposite, Ive been watching anime since I was 6 and am now 28. In the last 5 years anime is at its peak in my opinion. It also has to do with it being more readily available in the computer age, but even back then my dad use to bring tons of stuff home. I was really into Fist of the North Star, Dragonball Z, Devilman, Guyver, Miyazaki movies,etc... I would have to say that there wasn't much in terms of quality anime back then. There's 10 at most different series that I would rematch and most of that is due to Nostalgia. I feel like in the last 5 years, there are shows that have become my all-time favorites. Also, I can find between 5-10 anime's to watch every year even being as picky as I am.

Fate Zero, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Hunter X Hunter, Psycho Pass, Kuroko's Basketball...Real quality stuff coming out recently.

I wouldn't say that so quickly. Sure enough many studios seem to focus largely on tried and tested tropes they believe will sell, but I've regularly been pleasantly surprised by and enjoyed stories I originally believed would be "just another 'trope' anime".

Take Sakurasou no Pet na kanojo [2012] (/The-pet-girl-of-sakurasou) for example. Everything about it screams of "Yet another fan service loaded mess" but in reality becomes one of the best school age 'slice of life' anime adaptations I have seen in DECADES!!! And there have been so many more like it recently, that rewrite the preconceived notions of "how a certain trope anime is supposed to be written and presented", and have done so rather successfully.

Going back to my previous post, I'd like to add that I might even go as far as to say that the "crap anime" of this generation may even be able to lord over many of the lesser remembered "classics" of the past. Our standards of what we expect from anime has increased significantly with time and the advent of social media and the studios know this...

...well this is not to say that the best anime of today can lord over some of the timeless classics from decade or more ago. Not by a long shot! But we haven't seen the end of their appearance yet, I mean Puella Magi Madoka Magika alone showed just how much an anime can shake the world.

The anime gods are punishing us because we stopped sacrificing otaku to them. Once we start that again they will reward us with plenty of good anime.

To all those who feel it is "so bad" recently, what are those old anime's that you are so fond off?

OMG....

we

go

...

AGAIN!!

This thread is like that train going over that one track with all the signal lights permanently on green so it also stops running.

Addtionally, this track is built on the surface of a sphere. Need I say more?

The same reason video games used to be better, movies used to be better, your hobbie used to be better, your favourite food was always made better in that place that is closed down now. And you know what that reason is? They aren't. You just think they were.

The longer you are exposed to something the less you enjoy it, the higher and higher a standard you impose upon it to be able to enjoy it and the higher you keep setting your benchmark for "good". Trust me, go back and play your favourite video game or watch your favourite movie/anime from 10 years ago and I guarantee it is fucking horrible compared to what you are used to now.

Another thing is it is only ever the good stuff from years past that gets remembered. Think of it as retrospective confirmation bias. Remember, Spider Riders and Digimon Savers were out the same year as Code Geass... so yeah...

Sakurasou was another cuckold piece of shit that only basement dwellers watch to feed their own disappointment with life and self-hatred.

Oh so very new.

You can relax a bit, this is a pretty amiable corner of the internet. Not really conductive to flamemongering.
