What has happened in your past to make you believe that? I believe people can change, but from on the issue of anime...

They exaggerate THOSE details to make it rather unrealistic. I don't care much for MC's trying to save them because at that point I probably have thought that the show is a joke by then. I can't think of an example this early in the morning, but n general on the themes in the original post, I believe in watching any show like it that I would be safe to assume the writing is bad in general and I'm not taking the story seriously.

This post is a little confusing. The writing is bad if the plot is about people changing?

Or is the plot bad if the characters are unable to change?

For a defense of the later, I present Berserk.

An underlying theme of Berserk is the inevitability of Fate. That a person is unable to rise above their lot in live, no matter how hard they try. That's the truth of the depressing world of Berserk.

This is represented through the story of the cast.
Griffith wants to be king.
Caska wants to be treated as more than "just some Woman" but as a respected commander.
Judau wants to get the girl and stop being Mr. Friend Zone.
The entire Band of the Hawk give away their dreams to help Griffith achieve theirs.
And Guts wants to do more than just survive like he has been since childhood.

Each and every Dream is crushed by the shows conclusion. Griffith doesn't become King, Caska is still just a woman who can't lead, Gut's loses the friends and family he has built up over 3 years and now roams the world just trying to survive.

The core theme is how your lot in life, you're fate and destiny, is an unbreakable path in which you must follow.

Now, the Manga is slowly doing the Hero thing, but it's a story about how Fate is hard and features a Hero trying to overcome it. It's awesome that way.

I apologize that you spent so much time to reply to my post. If you think a girl character doing bad things and a guy "saving her" is good writing, that is your business. You must *have missed* the qualifier's probably and in general. Everything has an exception. Probability wise, I'd probably think one of those stories sucked no matter the themes presented.

Have a good day though :3. [*edit*]

I like to think and type and write.

While the media has a massive over representation of Guy saving Girl, this doesn't make it an inherently bad story.
To break it down, it's a story where one character, who is in a difficult position in life, being saved by another character.

We are human. We sometimes fail. Sometimes, we need help. That's the core engagement there. Someone is in need and someone can help. It's a very basic and effective story.

Again, it's far far far too often Man save pretty lady, but something over represented isn't bad, it's over represented.

This isn't a concrete bad. Nothing is wrong with the plot. It's not "Some are the exception to the rule" as It being bad is not a rule.
You could instead say some stories are an exceptionally bad piece of work, and the conversation doesn't change.

Also, havn't you seen Berserk yet?
