lmao In hs I graduated with a 3.84, but now I have a 1.9 after my first semester in college. ^_^

I never told anyone about my GPA cuz I really didn't care. The majority of my classmates didn't care either. Most of them went to a community college anyway. Personally, I think that GPAs are annoying as hell.

^ I just find the thread amusing. However, I hope this doesn't turn into a thread where people just drop their GPA and leave. A discussion about the whole GPA system would be nice ~ what are the pros, the cons... why you think it doesn't matter, why you think people who have high marks really give a damn...

Basically, a discussion. The "club" idea is also kinda cute.

Ok... here's my thoughts on it...

During high school, i carried a very low GPA... i failed many of my classes, but not because i did poorly on the tests, or didn't know the material... but because i failed to complete the homework.
Which IMO, is rediculous.

Just because someone can retain information better then those who can't, they are punshed to write papers and complete innane assignments because the rest of the class is filled with morons.

I know i'm not dumb, because i took an IQ test when i was hospitalized for my bi-polar.. and the results of that test were very high... in the 140's.

When i took the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery - ie big test for the military) My line scores were all WELL over 100.

So... GPA's say NOTHING about your intelligence.. all a GPA shows is your willingness to follow the leader and be a little pawn in the society of socialistic education.

for the record... my GPA in HS, was 2.1, my GPA in College (first time - 3.0, second time - 2.9 this time - 2.5 Yes it's going down because i think it's rediculous to be forced to do homework - i'm talking the stupid problems from the book - to get a good grade - not to mention, working full time, raising a child and going to school full time doesn't exactly allow for much time to be spent on homework)

you bring up an interesting point, but this is a gpa club(btw youre in if you feel like it)
i also never turn in my homework(its like 50%), but on a literacy test i scored at post college level
and yes i know it has nothing to do with intelligence but it does affect what you can do and what you can be

I know many brilliant people who don't care about their studies or GPA. One particular case that I can think of is a family friend's son. He acts like he has shit for brains. He gets straight D's. He always seems a bit out of it. They brought him to a doctor to see why he was like this and how to improve his attention. Turns out he's a genius. He did poorly in school because he was lazy. He became genuinely upset during tests doctors did with him when they asked him to show his work. He cried because he didn't understand why it was necessary for him to write when he could do it all in his head. He really is brilliant, however it comes at a price because all other aspects in his life are lacking, for example no friends. He's always in his own world.

And there is something interesting about GPAs that a counselor I had told me. S ome colleges see straight A students as less creative and less likely to think outside the box versus A/B students.

When I did Independent Study for a year of high school, I loved it because all I had to do is read my text book and show up for my test. They provided a ton of study material and homework, however most was optional. I handed in one worksheet per unit, so my GPA was based on test scores rather than a combo of that and homework.

Well I agreed until you said " shows is your willingness to follow the leader and be a little pawn in the society of socialistic education." I just want to fucking pass with the highest grades so I can go to a really good college and get a good job. Thats just what it takes. Plus in my school homework doesn't count for anything but the majority of people who didn't do it failed and I did all my homework and got high grades.

I have a question, how hard was it to get into med school if you have a GPA of around 3 in college, or do they just see how well you do on those entrance exams?

It was pretty easy, actually. Most medical schools don't have entrance exams. Instead, they ask for certain requirements, included is a proficiency test, which is comparable to a SAT. In the Philippines, it's called the NMAT (National Medical Admissions Test). You're ranked by percentile ranking, and some schools use this as the basis for acceptance.

For example, you need at least a 90 percentile rank in order to enter a certain Medical School. College grades are also factored in, but aren't as important as the NMAT score.

Hm, I just received my first GPA this term in college a 3.90.
I never had problems with getting good grades. And I find it annoying for people to boast about their "high" grades. I mean they're just numbers really. You can get high grades with being bookish but it doesn't prove that you really are smart. (-_-")

Interesting for you to make a club for people who got low GPA though. (>.<")
