What about volume 1 of Skip Beat with several $5 bills scattered in the pages.

If she reads it she ends up with some money. if not it's sits on a shelf

I'm at a bit of a stumper on what to get for my (step)neices and looking for some advice. I tried talking to their parents and they are about as clueless as I am. I don't know them well (as I said stepneices) and I really have no idea how to shop for girls plus I dislike just giving money or gift cards

Girl A) 13, hates everything, blames everyone. Athletic, smart and when making a video game character went with motorcycle helmet, leather coat and spikes.

Girl B ) 12 generally pretty pleasant, artistic, likes pink. When making a video game character went with Really REALLY tall, Pink and ballarina dress, with cat ears.

(I threw in the video game stuff cause I think when you give a kid customization options in a game, you get a decent look at their personality. Maybe it helps maybe it doesn't).

beyond getting help for myself I figure this thread might be handy for others who are as stumped as I am

unless they have fear of animals, no matter the child a pet will brighten up their world.

girl A sounds like they'd be more into anime such as samurai champloo. so a wall scroll of that sounds good.

girl b sounds like a dyi selfer, if they are an artist such that they draw or paint daily, try an easel. if not introduce them to painting with a painting set or a paint by number kit.

im always for giving the family a board game such as ticket to ride, takenoko, cranium, scattegory, or something to their flavor. board games always bring a family together

especially since you describe their interest in games, find out if they play any games and buy something from that game. such as a diamond sword/pickaxe if they are into minecraft,

^ if a child has allergies, a pet that isn't hypoallergenic won't brighten their world. There are some dog breeds that are hypoallergenic, so that's something to consider.

Have you tried Skoshbox.com? They are a company that sends random Japanese snackies. I don't know what your price limit is, but it might be something fun for all of them. Or, if you live in an area where there are Japanese stores, you could always send them a couple of fun care packages during the year with snackies, bags, erasers, hair accessories, etc.

ZOMG... you all totally suck at giving gifts... lol

WTF?

Instead of guessing at what the girls want, spend some time with them.. Listen to what they talk about. Take a look around their rooms and see what they have. Barring that, simply ask their parents what they've been wanting.

A game character isn't going to say shit about their personalities, only what they ideal fashion/body image is. "pink" is not a personality type. "Athletic" isn't either!

And the anime gift ideas.. those are things YOU are interested in. Not necessarily those girls!!!

The only time I've bought anime for someone as a gift has been when the person I bought it for sat down and watched anime with me (and sought it out, or said "I like anime"). and then I bought titles based on what THEY told me they enjoyed.

FFS.

aye.. it's no wonder the people here are mostly single... lol.

Ok. When the OP sees this,

PLEASE GIVE US SOME MORE INFORMATION

What are their hobbies? what makes one athletic and one artistic? does the artistic one like working with a particular medium? Does the athletic one have a particular sport or activity they enjoy?

Think back to what you last talked to them about and what they said. What were the things they seemed interested in?

Give us some more to work with.

What's to stop them from just noticing there's things stuck in the book and flipping through it to where the bulges are?

Or hell, just pretending to like it and flipping through without reading it.

Ungh....

Well, even if she doesn't like it and just does that, at least she'll still get money to go shopping at the dollar store. Still ends up being a great present.

I almost would rather recommend using this:

http://randomamazonproduct.com/

Or just give her the money...
Or be the most bastardly of bastards and do this:

http://www.amazon.com/Gift-Card-Maze-by-TechTools/dp/B002P4NOU2/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1418876782&sr=8-9&keywords=money+puzzle

And put a five dollar bill in there hide a nice BIG wad of fake bills.

Approximately $25 a kid (It's up to their parents to get the big stuff). 4 of them in total. My brother has a son from his first marriage, his wife has the two girls from her's and they have a 3year old together.

I don't know the girls at all really, mostly from family dinners and some babysitting, that is why this is such a stumper for me. Nephew I've known since he was born, I know him pretty well and the new one is 3, he'd be happy with an empty box to sit in (although he loves monsters so I got him one of those. It goes Chomp and laughs).

Girl A's main issue is that she has spent several years convincing herself that her real dad is much better than my brother and she's finally old enough to start realizing that the reality is very different but she doesn't want to admit it. Not sure that anything from my side of the family is going to make her happy but I feel I should at least try

Ok think I nailed it for the 12 year old. Found a great book on The meanings of Color. Great little book that address what different colors feel like and how to use them together to create different messages and ideas. Very kid friendly and very nicely put together.

Link if anyone is interested

http://www.amazon.ca/Illustration-School-Lets-Magical-Color/dp/1592539173/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1418933824&sr=8-1&keywords=lets+draw+magical+color

14 year old still a bit of a stumper. May end up with the combo of gift and money, not sure yet

Thank you everyone for the advice (except for that one guy suggesting the dildo)
