Hey everyone,

Just got into the light novel scenes recently.

Picked up a couple like SAO and Accel World and Spice and Wolf.

I guess what I'm asking for in this thread is that Amazon is pretty difficult to navigate for new novels because it mixes up manga and light novels and sometimes is really unclear which I'm looking at unless someone has commented on the bottom of the product page saying they got mixed up as well and ordered the manga by mistake.

I don't really know who are the major players localizing these books are either. I know Yen Press is bringing the big names like the ones I got. But beyond that, I don't know much (Yen Press' site really needs to have light novels and manga separated more clearly as well). So if you got any information or official sites or upcoming books being localized to the US or special online sales of certain light novels, it would be much appreciated and I'm sure there will be others who would benefit from learning about any news as well.

Of course, you can talk about books being brought to any other country besides the US that you think might interest someone here on CR.

I don't care about the purpose of your thread but if you want to get into proper lightnovels I recommend Mahouka koukou No rettousei, Highschool DxD and Black Bullet. These are the one I've gotten in so far

You can check out this site: http://englishlightnovels.com/list-of-light-novels/
This website is great at seeing how many light novels are translated and how they are doing (whether they were canceled or not, etc.)
Yen Press is the major light novel publishing now bringing maybe 5 new series in the next few months, plus all the currently running ones: sao, index, accel world, dungeon, etc. Others are Dark Horse publishing a few, most notably Vampire Hunter D. Vertical has Attack on Titan before the fall, and some other unique light novels from other publishers.
Hope this helps

That is a visual novel, however, not a light novel. Totally different beasts.

yen press really is one of the main ones translating light novels, and they are getting more and more recently...
however, things like all you need is kill was translated in 2009 or something, and only because there was a movie being made it was made into a manga...
ooh that is a good website blz!

I'm using this list that CR very handily put together.

http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2014/11/14-1/amazon-lists-sword-art-online-girls-op-and-madoka-magica-rebellion-story-manga-from-yen-press

Physical copies are available at stores before Amazon release date. I picked up SAO 3 and "Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?" 1 (and someone please come up with a shorter name for this, it'll save me from having to copy and paste every time) at Kinokuniya on 12/13.

Kinokuniya is a lifesaver if you are searching for Japanese books. They have both English releases and Japanese imports. And it's not limited to manga and LNs, they also have illustration books (was contemplating picking up a KagePro one) and magazines there too. Their San Francisco store is pretty darn big. Wonder if CR will hold an event there someday.....

Black Bullet is decent. Mahouka is the Gariest of Stus, so YMMV -- personally I found the MC intolerably cheesy with how perfect he was and everyone wanting his uhh... mind. HS DxD is generic fapmaterial, so if harem floats your boat, it has it in spades.

Some place like Barnes and Noble online might do a better job of sorting the light novels. Then if you still wanted them from Amazon, you could just do an ISBN search.

I've recently jumped into a few titles myself, but I don't think any of them are out in English yet other than maybe Log Horizon?

I recently noticed the first couple volumes of Aria the Scarlet Ammo on Amazon in English, in e-book format no less.

IKR, I ordered Durarara before and thought it was a LN, but instead it was a manga.

From that experience, before I buy from Amazon, I to publisher website first to see cover to make sure I will get the right ones.

Right now I am just follow Spice and Wolf. "Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?" just arrived yesterday; just finish chapter 1. Looking for Log Horizon next year. Want to buy SAO before, but now I don't want anymore; same with Index.

For official releases, it's pretty exciting that Yen Press recently picked up a bunch of titles that it will be translating and publishing. SAO is of course a success, but it'll be interesting to see if the other, less popular titles are successes and if this can be the start of an expansion of the genre in Western markets. The one I'm most excited to get my hands on is A Certain Magical Index; I haven't had a chance to grab it yet.

A link in a previous post lists most of the official light novel translations, but I'll add some of the upcoming releases that aren't there.

More recent or upcoming releases:

Yen Press

Sword Art Online
Accel World
A Certain Magical Index
Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?
Kagerou Daze Feb 2015
Sword Art Online Progressive March 24, 2015
Log Horizon April 21, 2015
No Game No Life April 21, 2015
The Devil Is a Part-Timer! April 21, 2015
The Isolator (Absolute Isolator) June 23, 2015
PandoraHearts ~Caucus Race~ June 23, 2015
