#MeninistTwitter

So I recently stumbled upon this hashtag and found it both intriguing and amusing. It was apparently created as a joke, but has started picking up steam when anti-feminists and men's rights activists got wind of it. Here's a little article I found that shows a good variety of the kind of stuff that you can find on it:

http://www.buzzfeed.com/rossalynwarren/men-are-calling-themselves-meninists-to-take-a-stand-against?bffb

I, personally, find it simply amusing when I imagine the fuming feminists who read the stuff these men post. I'll also admit that quite a few of them do make valid points and I think it's fair to let men have a space to vent their own frustrations about being a man in the 21st century. I mean women got #YesAllWomen, right? Why can't men be allowed to voice their grievances as well? I don't see any harm in it, to be honest. We all get frustrated about life. And I believe that everyone should have the right to voice their issues with society. Just because a man chooses to complain about how he feels mistreated doesn't mean he's a misogynist who doesn't believe in women's rights. It simply means he, as a man, is not always so privileged either.

So, what are your thoughts on this?

P.S. I tried to watch the video blog they added, but couldn't stand the woman when she started reading some of the tweets. Obvious biased person is biased. I don't have the patience, nor the ability to take someone so blatantly narrow-minded seriously. If you do watch it, please let me know what you think and if she makes any valid points.

Please don't start a flame war. Leave you feelings at the door. No one cares about them here. I only want to hear what you think, not how you feel about it.

I think a lot of feminists would hate me honestly. But there are good points on both sides. But ultimately...

both Feminists (new age feminist, not the ones who used to fight for equality, im talking about the one sided "all men are rapists and they should be paid less than me because im a female" feminists) and "mennists"? are both stupid.

Everyone wants equality but they try to take away from other groups in order to get that "equality" which isn't really equality, its just tipping the prejudice in your favor.

I cant stand this new age bull shit. Social justice warriors and white knights need to go back to tumblr and leave me alone.

I can't take "men's rights activists" seriously. I'm a man. I'm a white man in America. I'm so very privileged. I don't wanna hear men in general complain about the hardships of being a man. It truly is a male dominated world. It isn't a "men and women" world. It is a "men's world". It is the truth. I won't deny it.

A lot of people just feel the need to complain these days. Too many people complaining about too many things. Men complaining about how "hard it is to be a man" can be lumped right in there.

I don't take a side unless it's been proven wrong and discriminating.

No one should be treated differently so yeah, who give a f*ck? but there are some truth to both sides.

Don't you think that's a rather selfish point of view? You have it good so all men must have it good too and have no right to complain about anything?

I think both sides are kinda silly. Though I do think the whole "real men have curves thing" is kinda funny.

Eh...I wrote out a reply, clicked on a link to another page, and then my reply was gone. I'm not gonna bother to retype it all.

Anyway, I am not saying men have no right to complain about anything. I'm just saying I don't like hearing guys complain about how hard it is to be a man when women have, by and large, always had it worse than men. In addition, it is mostly due to men oppressing women, all around the world, all throughout the ages. I don't like those who are serious about meninism because of those reasons, and also because meninism is in reaction to (the more legitimate) feminism.

Sure, there are some downsides to being a man. But women have always had it worse. Let's say two high school kids meet up some time. They both have things they are bothered by and want to open up and vent to each other. Person A just got a D on a math test and is grounded for the rest of the week, and oh, it's Tuesday. Person B just found out a good friend died, and that they committed suicide. Both got something to complain about. But one is definitely worse than the other. In light of the worse one, who really wants to hear Person A complain about their complaints?

Oh, by the way, I don't have it so good, as you put it. I have my own issues and problems. Just, as a white male in America, I sure got it good compared to a lot of other people, just based on those things alone.

it would be funny if it was true.

but I see all the time, a hot skinny milf, with a fat old ugly balding man. there is more expectation for a woman to look good, and men can look like homeless but can still score. (The only reasons why a man can't score is if theyre a geek who still lives with their mom or they try to go for women who are above their league, then they come online to complain about why they can't get women...).

so imo, meninism makes as much sense as straight pride, in other words, it doesn't make any sense.

___________

Of course double standards exist for any gender, but if there are people who think that men are oppressed, they are seriously delusional.

Well the name is annoying, couldn't they have just gone with something like masculinist.

“The ‘menimist’ hashtag seeks to critique feminism though parody,” Blaque said. “Unfortunately all it does is demonstrate that people still don’t know what feminism is.”

Even feminist debate what feminism is, a good deal of it is highly subjective and open to interpretation.
