Monster isn't included in those examples? Twelve Kingdoms is pretty good, too--even if it is high fantasy (45 episodes). Also, what do you mean by "doesn't rely on mechas"? As in, it contains a lot of giant robot fighting? You may like Flag or Gasaraki, if you haven't seen those already (though, both may get kind of boring to some people). I have a list if you want to look at, though I didn't break it down by genre. Alphabetical, though.

There are a handful or more titles not in the list as it's outdated. One of them is Rainbow (Post WW2 prison anime), which is also pretty good. Besides all that, it's nice to get an idea of other people's likes and dislikes, ya know? As for myself... my palette is an array of different colors, as it were. I'll watch anything regardless of genre 'cause ya never know what gems may await you. The last thing I watched was Terra Formars--it was so-so. Fluff, no stuff.

If you find something that interests you on the list, I'll be happy to tell you what I can about it (them). Or anyone else, for that matter.

Sword Art Online, most likely because of the bad things I kept hearing about that series.

I might want to watch the whole thing from its beginning right up to its current point in the story, though.

I see...

As for your recommendations, I've already seen the majority minus the live action Boogiepop movie. It's as I've said, my list is outdated (by 5 months, to be exact). Granted, I haven't watched that much since then, but still quite a bit. Mainly older titles anywhere from the early 90's to mid 2000's. Plus, some of them I've listed only one title (Ghost in the Shell or Gundam, for example), but in actuality I've seen all or most of either its sequels, spin-offs, etc. I've seen every Gundam (well-known or not as) and every Ghost in the Shell down to the compilation movies. Just trying to clear that up. I still have to tweak the list and whatnot, but I'm too lazy.

Pale Cocoon is by the same guy that did Time of Eve and Aquatic Language, if you're wondering about that. I couldn't really tell which ones you wanted to know more about (though, for the looks of it, you've seen the majority of what I have and perhaps then some), so I'll hold off on that.

I think it's cool you worked on some of the translations though, official or otherwise.

Naruto and Bleach, I've heard enough about the characters, setting and plot points to make me completely disinterested in them.

Dragonball is something I could have enjoyed if I watched it as a kid, then watch is nostalgically as an adult, kind of like the pokemon games. Alas, it's too late for me to start watching it.

I'm pretty sure I've seen Pale Cocoon, I just don't remember all of it.

I'm not really hurting for need of recommendations. There's always just so damned much that comes out, (hence what I think the thread's about).

It's actually kind of interesting to see some of the ways people end up deciding something's worth watching or not. I know a handful of people that deal with the crunch by watching only the first episode of a series, and then judging it off of that. I used to try and give it a handful more, but my time allotted to watching things gets shorter and shorter as I get older and older. Typically my anime time is basically "after dark" till about 2am. (I don't need much sleep), unless something else pushes into the schedule (and meetings for volunteer stuff have been piling up).

The translation stuff was fun. I really enjoyed it. The manga was with an established group. The fansubs were a whole 'nother animal. I didn't have a decent enough computer to do the heavy lifting, and I couldn't translate directly, so I did QC stuff. With the fansubs, I wasn't supposed to lead the group, but kinda got the position anyhow. We didn't last long because I resisted leading and didn't take management seriously. We got by for the first few bits with using google translate, some Chinese subs, and google translate. After that, we checked against manga source material, and QC'ed the hell out of it. Back then Google translate wasn't the best (it's sooooo much better now) and it meant a LOT of "translating" broken English into conversational English. Mind you, the whole reason for this was buying time till we got a translator, which, there were extremely few, and it's not just "Oh, I kinda know Japanese" that you need. You need someone that is really fluent, and can hold a conversation with ease, because they're going to be listening and typing at the same time. If you've ever done any sort of secretarial duty or taking minutes, you can imagine how difficult it is. By comparison, the rest is a lot easier.

I kinda miss those days. The anime was a LITTLE better, but a lot of it was more about being able to enjoy a title with friends. I think people on both sides of the fan made translation argument make some gross exaggerations too. They're both a lot more alike, and are in their own ways supporting the industries and trying to give the best translated works they can.

but yeah. I'm well stocked on my anime.

^ This. One Piece. I think the art style just put me off from giving it a chance.. Also, there's just too many episodes to catch up on.
