well here is what I thought...

you are not looking hard enough or your standard are way too high.

There are really good anime adaptation here and there and unique ones here and there.

In the world of profit driven industry, we would be lucky to see really high quality anime here and there that are not as profitable in comparison to One Piece and Naruto.

There is no secret stash of anime. Pretty much every show every season except for an orphan or two ends up here on Crunchyroll or on Funimation.

Try Psycho Pass 1 & 2 over on Funimation for a modern cop anime with lots of horror elements and no boobs.

Otherwise there's a lot of boobs in anime today. Love the boobs. Embrace the boobs. Enjoy the boobs. Boobs are good.

Recent shows you might like though some might have boobs, be warned....

Kill la Kill
Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan)
Akuma no Riddle (Riddle Story of Devil)
Gokukoku no Brynhildr (Brynhildr in the Darkness)
Hitsugi no Chaika (Chaika the Coffin Princess)
Jojo no Kimyou no Bouken Stardust Crusaders (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Stardust Crusaders)
Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei (The Irregular at Magic High School)
Sidonia no Kishi (Knights of Sidonia)
Aldnoah.Zero
Akame ga Kill
Kiseijuu (Parasyte)
Yozakura Quartet
Monogatari Second Season

Older

Another
Durarara
Bakemonogatari
Nisemonogatari
Nekomonogatari

Embrace modern anime or... just watch '90s anime over. That's good too.

togainu no chi
Rin
terror in resonance (not scary but really good)
dead man wonderland
elfen lied
no 6.
ergo proxy

these are all pretty good in my opinion.

i have to tend to agree with you about the shounen thing it gets old fast (akame ga kill sucked sooo bad)
you can pretty much call what will happen without even having to waste your time watching those types of shows. they don't even get the watcher engaged in the characters enough to care how the plot ends up.

Seriously there's no joke that anime these days are over saturated with ecchi/ fanservice shows like none other, equivalent to FPS games. Sure there has been alot of shows recently that are high quality, but not nearly enough of them. It's always the same old dense goody good two shoe characters you see far too many times it's painful. Too much shounen type these days I should say.

Alot of the mid 2000's and before that have always been more adult oriented and this coming from someone who started watching anime 3 years ago. I started off with Elfen Lied, Golgo 13, Angel Beats. And when I watched Clannad I can conclude that nearly no romance type anime's come close to that show since then. Just bought the Cowboy Bebop series on blu-ray and watched it for the first time and I can see why the quality of shows were better back then. Also you can only watch the same harem anime's that conclude nothing when it ends lol.

But ever since AoT arrived, the tide began to change slowly with some rally good shows.

These were grungy cop shows full of vulgar language, strip clubs, bad guys that you hated, and main characters that you loved despite their flaws. Parasite Dolls was the last animated series that I saw that made me feel nostalgia for those days. I thoroughly enjoyed Ghost in the Shell: SOC.

Somewhere between the mid 90s and today, TV got flooded with shounen series. Shows that are popular with young adults and typically marketed to teenage boys. These shows are lovable for the same reasons that they are bad. I am sure that I don't need to go into detail. When you've seen Dragonball Z, Yuyu Hakusho, HunterxHunter, Naruto, Bleach, Fist of the Northstar, Akame ga Kill, etc., you begin to see annoying patterns. Why is it that the best of anime is hard to find these days?

If there is anybody out there that knows where to find the good shit, please comment. I won't say that Seinen cop shows are the only good movies/ series out there, but I'd rather not see another show about ki blasts and boobs. I'd like to see some horror. Anything for mature audiences that isn't hentai.

you got older. I feel the same. I really hate all this slice of life bs animes they come out with, the ecci, the one dude with multiple girls around him(forgot what type of anime this shit is called)

Dude, quit living in the past. There is still good anime out there that is dark and gritty and balls to the wall actiony (which Ninja Scroll definitely was, don't deny it).

Here's some suggestions (some of them are newer series as well):
Shingeki no Bahamut
Parasyte
The Unlimited Hyobu Kyosuke
Speed Grapher
Ergo Proxy
A crapload of different Gundam series
Evangelion
Rahxephon
Ga Rei Zero
Zankyou no Terror
Knights of Sidonia
Katanagatari
Sword of the Stranger

The Tatami Galaxy (has a lot of dialogue though, so much so that it makes the Monogatari series look like a child's book in comparison)
Psycho-Pass
Deadman Wonderland
Elfen Lied

It sounds more like that your issue is you are sticking to one genre, which of course will lead you to get incredibly bored or "fed up" with current anime, because you haven't experienced enough of it yet. Literally every series I just listed up there is meant for an older audience and carries a lot of mature themes. I swear if you are one of those people that claim anime is dying, I wouldn't be shocked.

That would be the harem genre, and 9/10 it sucks. It's probably the only genre (besides Shonen-Ai and Yaoi) that I try to avoid as much as possible.

Central Park Media and U.S. Manga Corps? *looks at shelf* Check. Managed to get my hands on many of those titles back in the day. If that is what you are into, then watch 'em again, but there is plenty going on in current anime, too.

I totally think old anime is overrated.

No offense, but you're 18. Of course you think it's overrated. :P

I understand what the OP means though. t was geared more to adults and made for adults. Story mattered more and there was less that was cookie cutter and less trope heavy stuff.

Parasite dolls was one with a definite old style animation and old style story.

I will agree with you though, that the OP also is suffering from a case of nostalgia.

I disagree with this. Age means nothing because anyone can still view older series. Trigun i think is a pretty good series and i think it holds up to this day but the art didn't age well. There was also shitty anime back in the day but people forget about them.

Nah, they were just a lot more gar back in the day. The aim didn't change, just the content of the fantasies did.

To find the stuff you're into, you have to search for it. If you just label all anime now-a-days as T&A (or whatever), then you're not putting any effort into the search. The ones I was going to list have mostly all been said, so I don't think I'll be much help.

Haha, this quote was too good, nice one hpulley.

Also, nice list of shows there for the OP, should find something likable in the bunch I'd think.

One thing to point out is you mention shows that were Movies or OVA's. So consider that budgets for those are much higher than for a TV series. As for how "quality" looks it may just be a matter of taste. I think the animation and style for Garden of Sinners is pretty amazing. Also happens to be an OVA series. While the stories may not be your cup of tea, P.A. Works consistently has amazing looking shows. Modern anime movies to consider are Redline, First Squad, GiTS Innocence, and Sword of the Stranger. Some older ones that you did not mention but are tops in my opinion are, Akira, Patlabor, Jin Roh, Paprika, Princess Mononoke and Nausicaa. That should give you a wide range of genres to check out. All are legally available streaming or on amazon/Right Stuf. Patlabor might be hard....but I see it show up at used book stores that also take in movies. Stay away from ebay as that is a bootleg trap.

A couple more TV series : Black Lagoon, Basilisk (ninja scroll influences) and Count of Monte Cristo (Interesting art design)

Ok I'll shut up now...
