Do you prefer the Japanese title of an anime, or the American?

Example:
Japanese : Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu
American : The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

I USUALLY say the American name, but I like to know both, so I can identify the anime either way.

it depends on which title is more comfortable for me to say, for example, i prefer to say shingeki no kyojin for the manga, and attack on titan for the anime. Another title would be shokugeki no soma. i like to say its japanese name instead of food war, because i heard the japanese title first, thus im more comfortable with it.

but i usually have trouble saying the Japanese name so in my head i may think "kuroshitsuji" but out loud i will say "black butler"

Usually the English title. Unless it is one of those insanely long titled shows, then I just use the short hand version of its Japanese name.

Granted sometimes the Japanese short hand becomes the primary name in English, with the full English version of the title being used essentially as a subtitle(look at Watamote as an example of this).

But yeah, generally I go with the English title.

I like to know both, but I usually prefer referring to them as their English-translated titles. There are a few exceptions of course.

Whichever one is shorter or easier to remember in most cases.

Example:

Depends on the show.

Example:
Some people: Attack on Titan.
Me: Shingeki no Kyojin.

If I am talking to English Speakers, I will use English. If I talk to Japanese speakers, I will use Japanese.

The American one , I cant tell like 3 or 4 seasons ago there was this joke of anime with long names.

Ore no Imōto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai (Oreimo)
Yahari Ore no Seishun Rabu Kome wa Machigatteiru SNAFU
Ore no Nōnai Sentakushi ga, Gakuen Rabu Kome o Zenryoku de Jama Shiteiru (Neocume)

I mean you people can remember if the name have a mining in it
Example My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute > Ore no Imōto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai

I prefer the English titles as I don't understand the Japanese ones... so they don't... sound good in my head. like what the hell is a yuutsu? it has no special meaning in my head.

For me, i would prefer Japanese romaji as appose to using the English title. I think this example will show why, but I think it's also because I have a problem with localization deals.

Asobi ni Iku yo! → Let's Go Play!
Localization title from Funimation → Cat Planet Cuties

I think it depends on what is easier to say, what sounds right for the show, or what i saw first the dub or the sub. So it all depends.

Prefer English titles myself

Though sometimes I get so used to a Japanese title that it sort of sticks in my head. For example, I still call it "Maria-sama ga Miteru" rather than "Maria watches over us" and "Kemono no Souja Erin" rather than "The Beast Player Erin".

"Sound of the Sky" is actually one that i've been bouncing back and forth between the English and Japanese. There are a few others like that.

But generally I go with the English titles. Even the ones that most people find ridiculous or annoying.

For me it depends. Sometimes I like the Japanese name better or the English one better.
